In a spring-loaded curtain mount (24), the mount includes a pole interface at a proximal end, a compressive mechanism, and a head at a distal end. The pole interface is adapted to receive the end of a standard length adjustable pole (22) or a painter's pole. The compression mechanism is disposed between the proximal end of the mount and the head (28). The mount (24) includes a coupling device adapted to receive a portion of a curtain (30). During installation, the curtain mount (24) is coupled to the end of an extension pole (22) and the length of the pole is adjusted such that the combined length of the pole and mount is slightly longer than the distance between the floor and ceiling. At ground level, a portion of the curtain is attached to the head (28) of the curtain mount. The curtain and mount (24) are raised to the ceiling and the mount and pole are compressed between the floor and the ceiling. This compressive force operates to urge the head toward the ceiling, securing the mount in place.

A strut (10) or strut system continuously adjustable in length for maintaining two bodies in a spaced relationship with respect to each other. Both the length of the strut (10) and the locking of the strut (10) at a desired length may be remotely controlled by pneumatic pressure. The strut system includes a cylindrical outer member (24) having a cylindrical bore for receiving a cylindrical inner member (22). The cylindrical inner member (22) is provided with a helical groove (42) for engagement with ball bearings (40) which are retained in a helical pattern in a collar (30) attached to the end of the cylindrical outer member (24) which receives the cylindrical inner member (22). The collar (30) is adjustable between a first position in which the ball bearings (40) are engaged in the helical groove (42) in the cylindrical inner member (22) and a second position in which they are disengaged from the helical groove (42) in the cylindrical inner member (22). When the ball bearings (40) are engaged in the helical groove (42) in the cylindrical inner member (22), the cylindrical inner and outer members (22,24) may be rotated with respect to each other to adjust the overall length of the strut (10). Further, the strut (10) will resist a compressing force applied to the opposite ends of the strut. When the collar (30) is in the second position with the ball bearings (40) disengaged from the helical groove (42) in the cylindrical inner member (22), the cylindrical inner and outer members (22,24) may be freely reciprocated with respect to each other. Pneumatic pressure may be used to adjust the collar (30) between the two positions, and to extend the cylindrical inner and outer members (22,24) with respect to each other.

Dementsprechend umfaßt sie mindestens eine an jeder Angriffsposition (3) des zu bewegenden Bauwerks angreifenden hydraulische Triebstelle (2), wobei jeder Angriffsposition (3) bzw. der zugeordneten Triebstelle (2) mindestens ein eigenes Hydraulikaggregat (4) und eine eigene Steuereinheit (6, 7) zugeordnet sind, so daß das Hydraulikaggregat (4) und die Steuereinheit (6, 7) in unmittelbarer Nähe der Angriffsposition (3) anordenbar sind, und wobei die einzelnen Steuereinheiten (6, 7) an eine gemeinsame Datenbus-Leitung (8) angeschlossen sind. Außerdem ist jeder Angriffsposition (3) mindestens ein Weggeber (5) zugeordnet. An die Datenbus-Leitung (8) ist ein Rechner (9) angeschlossen. Die Meßwertauswertung und Steuerung der Triebstellen (2) erfolgt durch die jeweils zugeordnete Steuereinheit (6, 7). Die Datenbus-Leitung (8) dient zum direkten Datenaustausch zwischen den einzelnen Steuereinheiten (6, 7). The support 10 of the present invention resembles a conventional Acrow prop which may be used for temporarily supporting a load. In particular, the present invention is arranged to support a surface at a static position. For example, the surface may comprise a ceiling/beam/lintel within a structure wherein the usual permanent supports for the ceiling/beam/lintel are being replaced or deemed temporarily insufficient. However, the present invention can be used in numerous situations where a support 10 is required and for which the support 10 can be quickly and easily installed. The present invention provides (hydraulic) movement means to move the upper end relative to the lower end. In addition, the present invention provides retraction prevention means to prevent the upper end moving towards the lower end whilst supporting the load and prevents the inner core member 14 being forcibly retracted back into the outer sleeve member 12 due to the compressive force of the load. A hydraulic ram 22 has a maximum extension limit and the present invention uses an adjustable mounting/abutment mechanism which means that a relatively small hydraulic ram 22 can be installed in the outer sleeve member 12. This size of hydraulic ram 22 will then be suitable for all heights and the support is not limited to simply being moveable within a restricted range.
