    摘要: Since a sharp crest 40 having a triangular cross-sectional shape is provided in a top portion of a thread ridge 10 of an external thread in the leading portion 24, the thread ridge 18 is easily caused to bite into an inner-wall-surface layer portion of a prepared hole of a workpiece in a tapping operation, thereby reducing torque and thrust load during the tapping operation. Further, since a pair of side surfaces 42, 44 of the sharp crest 40 are inclined by respective inclination angles β1, β2 that are larger than flank angles α1, α2 of the thread ridge 18, an angle (internal angle) of a top end portion 46 in which the side surfaces 42, 44 intersect with each other is larger than an angle defined between extensions of the flanks 30, 32, thereby restraining breakage or the like due to lack of strength of the top portion. That is, it is possible to restrain reduction of the tool life due to wear or the like, by reducing the torque and the thrust load during the tapping operation while assuring the strength of the top portion of the thread ridge 18.

    摘要: Provided is a pipe-tapered-thread machining spiral tap that restrains occurrence of tearing and formation of cutting edge mark in the machined internal thread upon stop of rotation of the tap.
    The pipe-tapered-thread machining spiral tap 10 has three, four or five spiral flutes 20 each having a helix angle β of not smaller than 30° and smaller than 50°. A flute width ratio AG/(AG+AL) is 0.3-0.5, where AG represents a central angle which is subtended by each of the spiral flutes 20 and which is defined at a center corresponding to a rotation axis C in a cross section that is perpendicular to the rotation axis C, and AL represents a central angle which is subtended by each of the lands 22 and which is defined at the center corresponding to the rotation axis C in the cross section. Thus, it is possible to obtain the pipe-tapered-thread machining spiral tap 10 in which occurrence of tearing is restrained owing to presence of the spiral flutes 20 each having the helix angle β that is not smaller than 30° and smaller than 50°, and in which formation of mark of the cutting edge in the machined internal thread upon stop of rotation of the tap is retrained owing to a short distance between the cutting edge 24 and the back edge 26.
