The present invention relates to an electrical household appliance (1) having a water tank (2) and a water supply system (4) communicating with the tank, these comprising at least one scale-inhibiting agent and means (3) for boiling and/or evaporating the water coming from the reservoir or contained in the reservoir. According to the invention, the scale-inhibiting agent is a biodegradable agent that is at least partially water-soluble. The present invention also relates to a method for inhibiting the formation and deposition of scale in electrical household appliances in contact with an aqueous medium, this method employing such a biodegradable scale-inhibiting agent.
