The surge protection device comprises a surge protection module (102) and a short-circuit current protection module (101). The surge protection module discharges and suppresses a surge current and voltage, and the surge protection module is a plug-in type module. The surge protection device overcomes the problems such as impact current brought by using an external overcurrent protection device as backup protection, while the surge protection device has a strong current limiting capacity, a good short-circuit breaking capacity, and a small minimal instantaneous tripping current value.
