摘要: An acoustic receiving transducer (46) receives acoustic energy in a field set up by an acoustic generator transducer (44). The transducer (46) converts a parameter of acoustic energy into an electrical signal for storage.
The acoustic receiving transducer (46) is moved to a plurality of predetermined co-ordinate positions in the acoustic field by stepping motors 52,54 and 56 and at each co-ordinate positions is rotated to angular positions by stepping motors 88,90 and 92. For each such position an electrical signal indicative of a parameter of the acoustic field is stored in a memory. The information in the memory is selectively retrieved to activate an electronic display means, and to expose film if desired, to provide a visual map of the acoustic field parameter detected.

摘要: An offset collator comprises a sheet gripper/injector transport station (12), an oscillating sheet receiving station (14) and an offset stapling station (16). Copy sheets from an associated copier or like machine are transported to the station (12) in a specified sequence whereupon they are gripped by gripper injector devices (36 and 38), and, in a reciprocating motion, inserted into a bin (100) of the station (14) where they are released. The bin (100) is oscillated in synchronism with the reciprocation of the devices (36 and 38), so that the copy sheets are inserted in an alternate offset posture. A logic control system causes the sheets of sets to be offset collated to be inserted between prior-inserted sheets of sets in the bin in proper order so that offset collation is effected. After offset collation is completed, the gripper/injector devices are dissociated from the oscillation of the bin. The offset stapling station then cooperates with the oscillating bin so that the offset collated sets, still in their offset posture, are stapled in the same order that the sets were formed. After offset stapling, the sets are maintained in the bin in their alternate offset posture completely finished and ready for convenient removal by an operator.
In the case of offset sorting, oscillation of the bin is selectively terminated so that the bin receives all sheets of a job in one posture. It stays in this posture until all the sheets corresponding to this particular sorting job are inserted. Then the bin is oscillated to an opposite or alternate offset posture. The bin remains in this posture until all the copy sheets corresponding to this next sorting job are inserted in the bin. In this manner, with the intermittent oscillatory movement of the sheet receiving bin, different jobs can be sorted using the apparatus.
If offset stapling of the sorted jobs is required, the same procedure as for the stapling of the offset collated sets is carried out by the apparatus, so that in either case finished sets or jobs are ready for convenient removal by an operator.

摘要: Lateral force is applied to a web by apparatus including an air bearing surface to guide the edge of the web against a fixed reference surface. A bearing surface 15 over which the web 18 is movable includes an arrangement of holes 24, 25 for establishing a differential flow across the bearing surface 15 to produce a lateral force on the web 18 in the direction of a lip 20 having a reference surface 21. The holes 24 and 25 are arranged asymmetrically relative to the intended centre line 16 of the web over surface 15 but parallel to the roference surface 21. There are twice as many holes 24. A common source 32 of air under pressure supplies the bearing surface holes. The differential air flow may be established by different sizes of holes through the bearing surface or by differing air permeability of porous material forming the bearing surface.

摘要: An electro-erosion head assembly is formed from a stack of thin laminae 6 of electrically conductive material. Each lamina has narrow extensions from an edge thereof to form electrodes 2. A connector tab 4 extends from the other edge thereof. Each lamina 6 is coated with a thin coating of insuta- tion material except on the connector tab 4 which is tin-lead coated for eventual soldering. The insulated laminae are stacked to form a head assembly and are encapsulated In plastics potting compound 16 which is ground down to expose the end faces of the electrodes. The electrodes 2 are located at the same locations on each lamina 6 so that, when stacked, they form heads comprising columns of electrodes, each capable of forming a spot in the electro-erosion process. The connector tabs4 are spaced from one another at the other edge of the sheets so as to make each connector tab available for a solder connection and thus give the required connection fanout

摘要: Volumetric one-component iodine-free Karl Fischer reagents useful for determining the water content of a sample, the reagents containing triiodide as the dominant oxidizing species. The reagents contain a reducing agent such as SO2, a buffer such as amine, a solvent, and an oxidizing agent that is triiodide, generally in the form of triiodide ions. The molar amount of SO2 in these reagents is greater than the molar amount of triiodide. Methods for making these reagents generally include the formation of triiodide in a first solution having a first amine/ SO2 ratio prior to obtaining a final solution having the final amine/ SO2 ratio. These methods provide economies in the ingredients used, and yield reagents exhibiting good titer strength and enhanced reproducibility of properties from one production run to the next.

摘要: A TV capture device (10) is described which is incorporated with a conventional TV set (24) or monitor. The data capture device (10) extracts digital data (30) from a composite video-digital signal (14) and allows one to selectively store, retrieve stored information, and display the information on a TV screen (24) or monitor. The apparatus includes a digital data extractor (12) for extracting the digital data from the composite video signal (14), a memory unit (20), a permanent storage unit (18), and a microprocessor (16) for receiving the extracted digital data (30). The microprocessor (16) is controlled by a remote control device (26) enabling information to be stored and retrieved from storage for display on a TV screen (24). A digital-video converter (22) is used to convert the extracted digital data (34) to video signals to simultaneously display the extracted digital data (34) with the currently transmitted program.

摘要: A monitor-exercise equipment apparatus for measuring a biomedical response such as heartbeat rate, and for using the measured response to control exercise equipment. The monitor includes a transmitting unit and a receiving unit located in the exercise equipment. An encoded digital signal represents the heart rate and has a first identification part identifying the transmitting unit and a second data part representing the person's heart rate. This signal is wirelessly sent to the receiving unit which determines if it is from the transmitting unit. Only if that is so is the data part read. If there are too many errors in the data part, a new frequency of wireless transmission is used. If the errors are within a reasonable bound, the data part is sent to a memory and/or display. The receiving unit provides a signal to a parameter control means in the exercise equipment which automatically regulates the resistance offered to the user in accordance with the measured heart rate of the user to provide a proper workout. Memory provides exercise profiles unique to the user. An identification unit allows each user to identify himself/herself to the equipment to access the proper stored exercise profile for that person.
