A process for producing an automotive weather strip. The process comprises the steps of applying a urethane-based aqueous paint onto a semi-finished product of an automotive weather strip; drying and curing the paint-applied product in a heating furnace; and applying a silicone compound having an amino group onto the semi-finished product. This process does not require complete curing of the as-applied aqueous paint in the drying step but allows complete curing by the heat inertia of the drying step, enabling shorter drying times or lower drying temperatures to be employed.

There is provided a weather strip for an automobile, wherein a void due to a gas pocket is prevented from occurring to a boundary part between a core bar (4) and a slightly foamed solid rubber portion (3), and a continuous extrusion molding system for molding the same. The weather strip for the automobile comprises a U-shaped trim (2) formed by embedding the core bar (4) in the slightly foamed solid rubber portion (3), foamed so as to have a specific gravity of 0.8 to 1.2, and tiny holes (7) having a depth reaching the core bar (4) are defined in part of the slightly foamed solid rubber portion (3) in such a way as to be arranged in line along the longitudinal direction of the weather strip. Further, the continuous extrusion molding system for continuously extrusion molding the weather strip for the automobile comprises a prickly gear (13), rotatable while pressed in contact with the weather strip being extruded, and disposed so as to be adjacent to a mouth piece (12) of an extruder (11), and tiny holes (7) having the depth reaching the core bar (4) are defined preferably in a groove bottom (3a) of a U-like shape of a part of the slightly foamed solid rubber portion (3), in such a way as to be arranged in line along the longitudinal direction of the weather strip by use of the prickly gear (13).

A retainerless weather strip (10) to be fixed to a door panel (20) of an automobile by a clip (40), which comprises: a base bottom portion (12) to be attached to the door panel; a hollow seal portion (13) to seal between the door panel (20) and a body panel (30); and a seal lip portion (14), wherein the base bottom portion has a cutout-shaped step portion (15) formed at a lower end portion on the automobile exterior side of the base bottom portion (12), and the weather strip (10) further comprises a thick waterproof sponge member (18) provided on the cutout-shaped step portion (15). The thick waterproof sponge member (18) has a thickness sufficiently larger than the depth of the cutout-shaped step portion (15), and has an elasticity such that a portion in which the clip (40) is located and portions in which the slip (40) is not located can be equally elastically contracted when the base bottom portion (12) is fixed to the door panel by the clip (40) so that watertightness is kept between the thick waterproof sponge member (18) and the door panel (20).

A beltline weather strip accommodated in a door panel for elastically contacting a door glass plate (50) and for sliding the door glass plate (50) comprises a base (31) which is substantially parallel to the door glass plate (50) with a cored bar (40) embedded therein, a solid lip (32) protruding from the upper door glass plate (50) side surface of the base (31), and a hollow lip (33) protruding from the lower door glass plate (50) side surface of the base (31), wherein the upper side of the hollow lip (33) is curved inwardly at the root end portion thereof and outwardly at the tip end portion thereof, forming an S-shaped curved upper side as a whole, and a ratio between the curvature radius Ra of the inwardly curved root end portion of the upper side of the hollow lip (33) and the curvature radius Rb of the outwardly curved tip end portion thereof is set as; Ra : Rb = 1 : 2.5 ∼ 1 : 3.5. As a result, it is possible to provide a beltline weather strip being excellent in slidability to be superior to prior art by 20 ∼ 30 % while being equivalent thereto in lip reaction force.
