With part of their periphery, the spreader rollers engage between the discs of each depilatory unit.

A depilation apparatus provided with a depilation member (7) with pinching elements (19, 21, 69, 73, 111, 115) for consecutively holding hairs growing from the skin clamped in and pulling these hairs from the skin. The depilation apparatus is provided with means (7, 41, 67) for twisting the hairs about their longitudinal axes before the depilation member (7) pulls the hairs from the skin. A considerable reduction of the required pulling force and a reduction of the pain occurring during pulling-out are achieved in that the hairs are twisted before being pulled out. The risk of hair fracture during pulling-out of the hairs is also considerably reduced. The twisting action of the depilation apparatus is achieved through the use of a pair of disc-shaped pinching elements (19, 21, 69, 73, 111, 115) with cooperating pinching surfaces (23a, 23b, 71, 75, 113, 117) which slide alongside one another at least temporarily in the pinching position of the pinching elements (19, 21, 69, 73, 111, 115). To achieve this, the pinching elements (19, 21, 69, 73, 111, 115) have different rotation speeds in the pinching position.

A depilation apparatus comprising a number of pinching discs (35) which are coupled to a drive shaft (7) in positions which are mutually rotated through 120° about the drive shaft (7). Each pair of adjoining pinching discs (35) is pivotable under the influence of a compression member (83) into a pinching position in which two cooperating pinching surfaces (67, 63) exert a pinching force on one another near a depilation opening (3). The pivot axis (113) of each pair of pinching discs (35) is determined by a stud part (55b) of a bipartite stud (55) of one of the two pinching discs (35) of the pair and by the mutually facing steps (41) of the two pinching discs (35) of the pair. The cooperating pinching surfaces (67, 63) of the pair are supported on either side in the pinching position by the stud parts (55b) and (55a), respectively, of the bipartite studs (55) of the adjoining pinching discs (35), so that a substantially straight force transmission path is created in the pinching position near the depilation opening (3). Each pair of cooperating pinching discs is provided with a delaying stud (59) by which the pinching position is temporarily delayed after tilting of the pinching discs (35) about the pivot axis (113). Furthermore, each pair of cooperating pinching surfaces (67, 63) is provided with two nose-shaped combs (73, 71) which are bent into a hair-trapping funnel. The present invention relates to hair removal. In order to provide a hair- removal apparatus with improved user acceptance, a hair-removal apparatus (10) is provided that comprises a hair-removal device (12) with a movable hair-removal component (14) which comprises at least a first hair-contacting member (36) and a second hair-contacting member (36) which are movable relative to each other and which are configured and arranged to mutually co-operate for removing hairs by mutually exerting a contact force, a pressing component (40) configured and arranged to generate said contact force by exerting a pressing force (20) on the movable hair-removal component during operation, a skin proximity sensing component (16), and a force adjusting component (18). The skin proximity sensing component (16) is configured and arranged to detect a relative distance (22) between the movable hair-removal component (14) and a portion of the skin (24) with hairs to be removed. The force adjusting component (18) is configured and arranged to adjust, during operation, the pressing force (20) exerted by the pressing component (40) in dependence on the relative distance (22) detected by the skin proximity sensing component (16). The movable hair-removal component (14) has a functional mode wherein the contact force has a first value and a non-functional mode wherein the contact force has a second value smaller than the first value. The force adjusting component (18) is configured and arranged to adjust the pressing force (20) exerted by the pressing component (40) such that, when the relative distance (22) detected by the skin proximity sensing component (16) is a first relative distance (26), the movable hair-removal component (14) operates in the non-functional mode and, when the relative distance (22) detected by the skin proximity sensing component (16) is a second relative distance (28) smaller than the first relative distance (26), the movable hair-removal component (14) operates in the functional mode.
