This invention provides an antenna unit operating for two frequency bands either in contained and pulled out. It provides a fixed antenna unit 20 and a slide antenna unit 30 freely in containing. A helical antenna 21 is provided in the fixed antenna unit 20. A first monopole antenna 31 having the same axis as the helical antenna 21, a second monopole antenna 32, and an antenna cover 33 for holding the monopole antenna 32 on the extended axis of the monopole antenna 31 are provided in the slide antenna unit 30. The monopole antenna 31 is held at the position where is not electromagnetically connected to the helical antenna 21 when the slide antenna unit 30 is pulled out, and the monopole antenna 32 is held at the position where is electromagnetically connected to the helical antenna 21. Further, the monopole antenna 31 is held at the position where is electromagnetically connected to the helical antenna 21, and the monopole antenna 32 is held at the position where is not electromagnetically connected to the helical antenna 21.

An antenna which has essentially a larger bandwidth than the bandwidth of an individual helical antenna is formed in coaction between the helical antennas (203, 207), by arranging the antennas coaxially and in generally the same axial positions, wherein the helical antennas (203, 207) are separated galvanically, possibly with the exception of at respective supply points. When fitted to portable equipment, the helical antennas (203, 207) can be combined with an axially movable straight wire antenna.

A portable radio communication device has an antenna (1) which can be extended for use and retracted for storage, and can transmit a signal at the same level of electric energy when the antenna is stored as when the antenna is extended. When the antenna (1) is retracted and stored, the stored condition is detected by a detecting switch (2). In response to a detected signal from the detecting switch, a transmission output controller (5) produces an increased transmission output control signal to increase the level of electric energy of the signal to be transmitted which is higher than a normal level of electric energy of signals transmitted from the antenna. When the increased transmission output control signal is generated, a power amplifier (3) amplifies a signal to be transmitted which is supplied from a transmission signal generator (4), and supplies the amplified signal to the antenna. Therefore, even when the antenna is stored, it can radiate the signal at the same level of electric energy as when the antenna is extended. The antenna comprises an antenna which operates as a loaded antenna when it is extended and as a helical antenna when it is stored.

An antenna handling mechanism incorporated in a portable radio communication apparatus (1) and including an antenna (2) which can be pulled out of the casing (7) of the apparatus, as desired. When the antenna (2) is received in the casing (7), the lower end (3) of thereof is locked by a latch mechanism (4) disposed in the casing (7). In this condition, as the tip (5) of the antenna (2) is pressed, the latch mechanism (4) unlocks the lower end (3) of the antenna and, at the same time, pushes the antenna out of the top of the casing (7) by a pushing stroke. When the antenna being inserted into the casing reaches a predetermined position, the latch mechanism locks the lower end of the antenna.

Die integrierte Antenne ist an einem konischen Gehäuseansatz (6) ausgebildet, dessen Innenraum mit dem Aufnahmeraum (5) zur Aufnahme der versenkten bzw. umgeklappten Stabantenne in Verbindung steht. Derjenige Teil (4) der Stabantenne, der sich bei eingeschobener bzw. umgeklappter Position der Stabantenne in dem genannten Gehäuseansatz (6) befindet, besteht aus Isolierstoff, so daß er dann die Funktion der integrierten Antenne (6; 6') nicht beeinträchtigt. Bei ausgezogener bzw. herausgeklappter Stabantenne befindet sich das an deren Fußpunkt angeordnete Einspeisungsteil (3) innerhalb des Gehäuseansatzes (6), so daß er die integrierte Antenne (7) derart verstimmt, daß sie keinen störenden Einfluß ausüben kann.
