Um eine Verspannung des zu befestigenden Gegenstandes insbesondere auch bei Hohllagen zu ermöglichen, ist die Befestigungsschraube (11) im Innengewinde (10) des Ankerbolzens (1) in der Weise vormontiert und durch eine überwindbare Sperre (15) fixiert, daß ein definierter Abstand (14) des Schraubenkopfes (12) zur Stirnseite (9) des Ankerbolzens (1) entsteht. Nach dem Eintreiben des Befestigungselementes in das Bohrloch (2) des Bauteiles (3) und dessen Verankerung wird durch Abscheren der Sperre (15) der Befestigungsgegenstand (16) am Bauteil (3) verspannt.

A masonry anchor for use in an undercut hole (2) comprises a nut portion (10) for engagement with an anchor bolt (50) and anchoring segments (14) which can displace resiliently outwardly into engagement with the undercut. The anchor is inserted into the hole by means of a tool (40) engaged with the nut portion. Removal of the tool is prevented if the anchoring segments do not correctly displace outwardly, to ensure that the anchor is usable only if it is correctly set within the undercut.

A system for attaching an object (2) to a workpiece (302) including an anchor (102) and an installation tool (202) is provided. The anchor (102) includes a body (104) having a transverse cross-section slightly smaller than the transverse cross-section of a hole (304) in a surface of the workpiece (302) in which it is to be deployed, and at least two barbs (108). The body (104) has a distal portion (110) having an inner end (112), a proximal portion (116) having an inner end (118), and a middle portion (122) connecting the inner ends (112,118) of the distal (110) and proximal (116) portions respectively. The barbs (108) extend from the first end (114) of the distal portion (110) axially and radially outwardly to outer ends (132) located radially outwardly of an axial projection of the maximum transverse cross-section of the distal portion (110). The barbs (108) are located in channels (124) having bases (126) which extend parallel to the longitudinal axis (106) of the body (104) in the middle section (122) and thereafter slant outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis (106) of the body (104) as they extend to the outer end (120) of the proximal portion (116). Each barb (108) is curved in its normal unstressed state, but is capable of being deformed into a substantially straight configuration. The anchor assembly is deployed by an installation tool (202) which includes an elongated shaft (204) having a distal end (206) and a proximal end (208), tubular means (210) associated with said distal end (206) of said shaft (204) adapted to receive and hold said middle (122) and proximal (116) portions of said anchor body (104), and plunger means (226) adapted for engagement with said outer end (120) of said proximal portion (116) of said anchor body (104), said plunger means (226) being axially movable through said tubular means (210) so as to expell said anchor (102) from said tubular means (210) and to drive said anchor (102) into said hole (304). A method of attaching an object (2) to a workpiece (302) utilizing such anchors (102) and installation tools (202) also is provided.
