    摘要: A liquid crystal device is constituted by a pair of substrates, and a chiral smectic liquid crystal assuming at least two stable states disposed between the two substrates. At least one of the substrates is subjected to a uniaxial aligning treatment in two directions including a normal direction and a reverse direction substantially opposite to the normal direction. The liquid crystal is placed in an alignment state such that the liquid crystal provides an apparent tilt angle ϑa which is a half of an angle between said two stable states, a tilt angle Ⓗ and a pretilt angle α with respect to a substrate surface, and forms smectic layers forming an inclination angle δ from a normal to the substrate surfaces, satisfying: H⃝/2 and H⃝ > α + δ . According to the liquid crystal device, an undesirable liquid crystal molecular movement along the substrates is effectively suppressed.

    摘要: The invention concerns a system and a method for managing the occupation of shared spaces such as meeting rooms or shared desks. The system comprises at least a display device 12 configured to display a status of availability of the concerned shared space and placed near each shared space whose occupation is managed. The system further comprises a central server 11 and at least a first bidirectional wireless communication means 13 between the display devices and said central server. This system is characterized in that the display device 12 comprises a bistable display, in that the first communication means may be in active or inactive mode, in that said first communication means is in inactive mode by default, and in that the display devices further comprises activating means 20 of said first communication means. The method of the invention is characterized in that it comprises the steps of disabling the first communication means when no information is to be exchanged between a display device and the central server; of determining whether information is to be exchanged between one of the display devices and the central server; if information is to be exchanged between one of the display devices and the central server, activating the first communication means by the activation means, and of transferring said information between the concerned display device and the central server.     摘要: We describe a multimode reconfigurable optical spatial mode multiplexing system having first and second first and second input beams and a beam combiner to combine these into an optical output. At least one of the paths comprises a polarisation-independent reconfigurable phase modulator to impose a controllable phase profile on an input beam in an input beam phase modulating optical path, to controllably convert a spatial mode order of the input beam from a lower to a higher order spatial mode. The system also has a control input to control the phase modulator to configure the phase profile for the mode conversion. The input beams are combined into a multiple spatial mode combined beam output independent of a polarisation of the input beams. The number of spatial modes of the combined beam can be more than a number of spatial modes in either of the first and second input beams separately.

    摘要: There is provided a liquid crystal composition which enables a significant reduction in crystallization temperature as compared with addition of a homologue while having a similar skeleton structure, which has an excellent compatibility, and which enables an increase in the absolute value of negative dielectric anisotropy (Δε). The liquid crystal composition contains two or more compounds which each have two to four ring structures between two side chains, in which at least one of the ring structures is a 2,3-difluorobenzene skeleton, and in which the two side chains are bonded to different ring structures, wherein the positions of the 2,3-difluorobenzene skeletons are different from each other, and the number of the ring structures are the same as each other. Assuming that the number of the ring structures is N, in the case where the two side chains have different molecular weights, the position of the ring structure to which the side chain having a larger molecular weight is bonded is defined as 1, the position of the ring structure to which the side chain having a smaller molecular weight is bonded is defined as N, and consecutive numbers are assigned from 1 to N, including the other one or more ring structures therebetween; in the case where the two side chains have the same molecular weight, the position of each ring structure to which a side chain is bonded is defined as 1, and the position of the ring structure to which no side chain is bonded is defined as 2.
