Verfahren zur Erkennung der räumlichen Konfiguration von Münzen in einem Münzautomaten mit den folgenden Schritten:
mit Hilfe einer Lichtquelle wird unter einem Winkel größer als 0° und kleiner als 90° in bezug auf die Erstreckung einer Prägefläche einer Münze ein mindestens zweidimensionales Lichtmuster (Lichtlinie) auf die Prägefläche projiziert, Münze und Lichtmuster werden relativ zueinander bewegt derart, daß sukzessiv ein Teil oder die gesamte Prägefläche beleuchtet wird, wobei die Münze an der stationären Lichtquelle vorbeibewegt wird, mit einer Optik wird die beleuchtete Prägebildfläche auf einen Bildempfänger abgebildet, mit Hilfe eines Bildempfängers wird der Verlauf des Lichtmusters während der Vorbeibewegung der Münze an der Lichtquelle aufgezeichnet, mit Hilfe einer Daten- und Bildverarbeitung werden die ermittelten Bilddaten mit vorgegebenen Bilddaten verglichen zur Erzeugung eines Echt- oder Falschsignals.

A money validator, such as a coin validator, can operate with different types of vending machines. With one type of vending machine, the coin validator chooses a suitable scaling factor in accordance with the values of coin denominations which it is intended to accept and transmits the scaling factor for use by the vending machine. The coin mechanism can also respond to a pre-set scaling factor in order to determine which coin denominations should be inhibited, for example because they have values which are not integer divisible by the scaling factor.

In a coin sorting device having a fundamental function for judging whether or not a deposited coin is included in a true-coin kind, an additional function is provided to judge about whether or not the deposited coin is included in a false-coin kind. The true-coin kind is represented by a first coin datum memorized in a first memory part (27). The false-coin kind is represented by a second coin datum memorized in a second memory part (28). The additional function is achieved in response to the second coin datum and a third coin datum representative of a coin which is deposited as the deposited coin into the coin sorting device. A coin or banknote validator is calibrated to accept items of value by taking successive measurements of items and using them to update acceptability data which defines at least one acceptability criterion for testing. Each measurement is first checked against a suitability criterion, and is only used for updating the acceptability data if the suitability criterion is met. In this way, the acceptability data can be derived without storing all the individual measurements, while still rejecting those measurements which are statistically unsound. The suitability critaria is such that if a measurement differs from the current acceptability data by more than a predetermined amount, the criterion is not met. To avoid problems resulting from the first measurement being unsound, this first measurement is discarded if it does not lie within a predetermined range of the second measurement.

A method and system for accurately and objectively evaluating the numismatic quality of a test coin and/or for fingerprinting the test coin for purposes of identification is disclosed. Important to both the grading and fingerprinting aspects of the invention is the exact, numerical evaluation of any detracting marks on each side of the coin. In addition, systems and methods for illuminating an object surface with light at varying angles of incidence and for optically evaluating the object surface for features and defects, etc. are disclosed. In a specific implementation of these systems and methods, the target object comprises a coin and the illumination and evaluation techniques are used to accurately objectively evaluate the numismatic quality of the coin and/or identify the coin. Important to the illumination and evaluation techniques is the ability to apply a uniform confined beam of light to the surface of the target object to be imaged.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur Prüfung der Echtheit und des Wertes von Münzen unter Verwendung induktiver und opto-elektronischer Mittel. Durch die Erfindung wird eine verbesserte Münzprüfung mit weitaus sicherer Gutgelderkennung und Falschgeldabweisung vorgeschlagen, die insbesondere für den mobile Einrichtungen geeignet ist. Erfindungsgemäß wird innerhalb eines Prüfzyklusses, in dem die Münze aufgenommen, zentriert, eingespannt und um 360° gedreht wird, der Münzdurchmesser, die Münzprägung und die Materialbeschaffenheit erfaßt und ausgewertet werden, wobei der Münzdurchmesser über den Verdrehwinkel zweier gegeneinander verdrehbar angeordneter Scheiben ermittelt und geprüft wird. Die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung ist mit Mitteln ausgestattet, die eine genau zentrierte und schwingungsgesicherte Einspannung der Münze für eine opto-elektronische Abtastung und die induktive Werkstofferkennung gewährleisten.
