It is possible to reduce the implementation complexity associated with dynamic carrier configuration by defining overlapping sets of candidate numerologies for at least some carriers in the network. A common numerology is included in sets of candidate numerologies pre-associated with two different carriers. This reduces the amount of numerologies that need to be supported by the corresponding user equipments (UEs) and base stations, which in turn reduces the complexity of those devices, e.g., less complex hardware, protocol stacks, and software, lower storage and processing requirements, etc. The common numerology specifies a common subset of physical layer parameters for both carriers. In one example, the common numerology specifies the same sub-carrier frequency spacing and symbol duration for both carriers. The common numerology may further specify the same cyclic prefix (CP) length for symbols communicated over both carriers.

The present invention provides an authorized shared access (ASA) assisted interference coordination method in a heterogeneous time-division duplexing (TDD) relay network. In a TDD relay system architecture, an ASA controller assists a secondary system to perform an interference coordination mechanism by adjusting a time slot structure configuration and synchronization information, and a mobility management entity (MME) obtains a time slot configuration and the synchronization information of a primary system through ASA, and selects, according to relevant information of a relay node inside a management range, an optimal time slot configuration and a working mode for the relay node. The ASA assisted interference coordination method in a heterogeneous TDD relay network of the present invention can effectively avoid interference on a primary user from the secondary system and increase a spectrum utilization rate; meanwhile, a relay node continues working on an ASA carrier frequency f1, thereby avoiding signaling consumption and reduction in network performance caused by switching of the relay node and a large number of relay user equipment (relay user equipment, RUE).

In embodiments of this application, a downlink signal is sent to a user equipment in an available frequency band of an uplink frequency band, and no signal is sent or received in a guard frequency band of the uplink frequency band, where the guard frequency band is located in a highest-frequency part and/or a lowest-frequency part of the uplink frequency band. Because no signal is sent or received in the guard frequency band of the uplink frequency band, interference to communication of a user equipment in an adjacent frequency band is reduced when the uplink frequency band is occupied for downlink transmission, thereby improving system performance.

Embodiments are provided for guard band utilization for synchronous and asynchronous communications in wireless networks. A user equipment (UE) or a network component transmits symbols on data bands assigned for primary communications. The data bands are separated by a guard band having smaller bandwidth than the data bands. The UE or network component further modulates symbols for secondary communications with a spectrally contained wave form, which has a smaller bandwidth than the guard band. The spectrally contained wave form is achieved with orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation or with joint OFDM and Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OQAM) modulation. The modulated symbols for the secondary communications are transmitted within the guard band.
