This invention relates to a process for the production of unsaturated compounds by dehydrogenation of a corresponding saturated compound in the fluid phase in the presence of a supported gallium compound as catalyst. The support is a tectometallosilicate which has the following composition in terms of the mole ratios of the oxides: and is suitably the zeolite Theta-1. The catalyst composition may be subjected to a thermochemical treatment prior to contact with the saturated compound to be dehydrogenated.

Alkylene glycols are prepared by reaction of an alcohol with formaldehyde and an organic peroxide having a formula R-O-O-R 1 where R and R' are independently either alkyl or aralkyl groups containing 3 to 12 carbon atoms. The reaction is carried out in the presence of electromagnetic radiation which is able to decompose the organic peroxide. The alcohol used in this process is either methanol, a secondary alcohol or a mixture thereof.

This invention relates to a process for producing aromatic hydrocarbon from a feedstock comprising C 3 /C 4 hydrocarbons mixed with C 2 hydrocarbons, especially ethane. The mixed feedstock is contacted at a temperature below 580°C with a catalyst composition comprising an aluminosilicate in which the molar ratio of silica to alumina is at least 5:1. The product is rich in aromatics and can be used as a gasoline blending component.
