    摘要: A connector module (1) permits termination of cross-connect wires (15) on one a front surface (4) and cable wires (21) on an opposite surface. The module exhibits a configuration, which permits test access and protector mounting from the front surface. The jumper wires (7) are inserted from a side surface through wire guides (22) or channels that bring the wires from the side surface to the front surface where the wires can be terminated without impeding insertion and removal of protection modules (8) from the front of the connector module. There is an intermediate surface below the front surface that is accessible from the front and recessed to allow protection modules to be installed completely below the terminated wires, allowing termination and maintenance of jumper wires after the protection module is installed from the front.

    摘要: Fused fiberoptic couplers of the type formed by the processes of providing the fibers, assembling them in a close-packed relationship, and heating and drawing the assembly of fibers in the close-packed region. The fiberoptic couplers (37) are fabricated from optical fibers that have optical cores (38, 46, 48, 50) and surrounding cladding and/or spacer fibers that have no core (40, 42, 44). The number of optical and spacer fibers and their relative arrangements are selected to achieve desired properties of the coupler (37). Its has been discovered that the steps involved in forming such a coupler, introduce slight size variation that can seriously affect the performance of the coupler, and that these slight variations can be accommodated by slight, controlled, under-sizing of one or more of the surrounding fibers or over-sizing of the central fiber. Other fiberoptic couplers, which may or may not be formed in the above manner, are described.

    摘要: An improved fiber optic connector of the type in which a fiber supporting ferrule (15) is slidably and resiliently biased independently of the surrounding load-bearing parts of the connector so that forces applied to the fiber optic cable jacket are not transmitted to the ferrule (15) and supported fiber to interrupt communications then in progress. Alternate embodiments include a rear body having means for engaging a sheath of a fiber optic cable, key means, and crimping operations with collet-like fingers.
