    摘要： The invention relates to an image processing method and apparatus in which the chromatic portion of a color image signal is outputted upon being substituted by a pattern or a luminance signal. The color of an inputted color image signal is identified by a color identifying circuit (107), and a pattern corresponding to the identified color is outputted by a pattern generating circuit (108). A pattern synthesizing circuit (105) outputs a corresponding pattern for a color portion of the color image signal. When a portion of the color image signal does not possess color, the pattern synthesizing circuit measures the distribution of a luminance signal in the color image signal and outputs an image signal the density of which conforms to the luminance distribution. In order that a base-color portion contained in the inputted color-image signal will not be converted into a pattern, the base color is judged by the luminance distribution and the base-color component is not outputted to the pattern generating circuit.

    摘要： An image processing apparatus for converting color images into monochromatic pattern images. The image processing apparatus includes: means for detecting the area of a color image (508); means for converting a color image into a monochromatic pattern image (507); and control means (523) for varying such image processing in accordance with the result of detection made by the means for detecting the area. When a thin line is detected (521) in a color area, the method of processing is determined based on the width of the detected thin line. For example, when the width of the thin line is smaller than a predetermined value, the area of such thin line may be outputted as a plain image instead of a pattern image so that it may easily be seen or recognized. The contour of a color area may be made conspicuous by combining a plain image and a pattern image.
