A sub-scrambling/descrambling method and device for enhancing the degree of scrambling of linear PCM data. Data is delimited every predetermined time, and the minimum value of a run is found and used as annex information. The run part is replaced with an arbitrary irreversible random data string. The data string is processed by a main scrambling device to generate transmission data. After the main descrambling of the transmission data, the descrambling device takes out the annex information and replaced the random data string with a predetermined "0" or "1" run according to the annex information. Thus, the degree of scrambling of linear PCM data is enhanced as much as or more than compressed video data is.

Provided is a wide band audio signal encoding apparatus, a wide band audio signal decoding apparatus, a wide band audio signal encoding and decoding apparatus and a wide band audio signal recording medium, each having a low bit rate, a wide band, a low distortion factor and a wide dynamic range as compared with those of the prior art. Wide band audio data is divided into signal data of a predetermined natural number N of sub-bands, and the number of bits for quantization for sub-sampling is determined based on noise floor information of the above wide band audio data. The signal data of the N sub-bands are sub-sampled by the respective numbers of bits for quantization, and encoded data obtained by multiplexing the signal data of the sub-sampled N sub-bands are recorded on a wide band audio signal recording medium. Therefore, both the characteristics of an extremely wide dynamic range and a wide band as compared with those of the prior art can be concurrently achieved at a relatively low bit rate per channel. This arrangement allows the achievement of recording and reproduction of an extremely transparent natural sound extending to an ultrahigh frequency region, a recording medium for recording a signal of the above wide band audio data and a reproduction sound field.

This invention relates to a time code recording/reproduction apparatus for recording and reproducing a time code corresponding to a digital signal. Time code conversion means (100) converts a first time code to a second time code and frame timing generation means determines a frame phase used when the input information is recorded. Phase difference detection means (103) detects the phase difference between the frame of the second time code and a recording frame and phase difference correction means (104) outputs a third time code on the basis of the detected phase difference and the input information is recorded together with the third time code. Accordingly, the input information can be recorded or reproduced while its relationship with a corresponding time code is being retained.
