A TDMA radio communication system uses a multiple sub-carrier modulation method. The TDMA radio communication system comprises at least a first and a second radio station. The second radio station selects only those sub-carriers capable of providing a transmission rate not less than a predetermined value in the first radio station, on the basis of the reception conditions of each sub-carrier of said first radio station. The second radio station then modulates the selected sub-carriers using a modulation level or a coding rate in accordance with the reception conditions of the sub-carriers so as to perform communication, thereby obtaining a desired transmission rate while controlling interface to other stations.

A multi-rated delay multiplexing direct spread spectrum communication system the multiplicity of which can be changed. The system performs control operation as quickly as possible by suppressing the output fluctuation within a narrow range so as to perform constant power transmission. A gain-variable amplifier (21) is provided at the succeeding stage of a modulator (19) and the gain of the amplifier (21) is controlled by a control signal generated based on the detection signal of the output of a power amplifying section (23). A detecting and control section (21c) detects the RF output of a delay multiplexing spread signal by means of a diode, finds the average power by means of an integrator, and equalizes the output of the amplifier (21) to a comparation voltage by means of a control signal which is generated on comparing the average power with the comparation voltage. However, when the output of the amplifier (21) is equalized to the comparation voltage, the time constant of the integration performed by the section (21c) is kept small for a fixed period of time by using a control signal representing a simplex/multiplex part. Consequently, a multiplexing switching section can quickly control the power.

To obtain excellent reception performance whilst cutting down the amount of computing operation in a MIMO communication system using soft-decision error correction coding. Received waves picked up by receiving antennas 401-1 to 401-R are converted from the radio frequency to the baseband signal by respective receivers 402-1 to 402-R to be output as a received signal. A signal detector 403 calculates bit LLRs of the transmitted signal based on the received signal and the channel-estimated values obtained from a channel estimator 404. The bit LLRs output from signal detector 403 are rearranged by deinterleaver units 405-1 to 405-T in the patterns opposite to the patterns in which interleaving was performed on the transmission side. The bit LLRs after de-interleaving are subjected to an error correction decoding process through decoders 406-1 to 406-T. The bit sequences after decoding are parallel-to-serial converted by a parallel-to-serial converter 407 so that the detected transmission bit sequence is output.
