A cutter device has a cutter portion (40) which is led by a depth gauge (52). The depth gauge (52) is mounted on and extends upwardly from a substantially planar main body section (32). The depth gauge (52) has a forward, or first section (52a) which extends upwardly from the main body (32), and when viewed from above is disposed at an angle (A) relative to the central plane (33) of the main body (32) diverging therefrom on progressing rearwardly. The rear end of the first section (52a) is connected at a juncture section (52c) to a second section (52b) which progresses rearwardly and is disposed at an angle (B) converging toward the central plane (33). The second section (52b) may extend across the plane of the body and diverge from the opposite side thereof on progressing rearwardly. A method of manufacturing an improved lead-free primed rimfire cartridge for ammunition (12) or industrial powerloads (52) providing a gas source for driving fasteners with power-fastening tools. A lead-free priming mixture (80) is consolidated into an annular cavity (20) of a rimfire casing and dried in the cavity. The primer is secured in the cavity by tamping at least a portion of propellant (30) into the casing against and over the dried primer. The tamping pressure per casing may range from 1,300 psi to 8,800 psi (91.4-618.7Kgf/cm²). Any remaining portion of required propellant (90) is added over the tamped compacted propellant layer. The ammunition and powerload casings are then sealed and finished in a conventional manner. A rimfire cartridge for both ammunition and industrial powerload applications manufactured as described above is also provided.

A hedge trimmer blade assembly preferably a double acting assembly having upper and lower reciprocating blades (27,28). Superimposed cutting teeth (29,30) extend laterally from the sides of the assembly from each of the blades. Guard portions (32) extend from the teeth of the upper blade (27) only on one side and from the teeth of the lower blade (28) only on the other side. The guard portions are asymmetrical with a straight side (38) and a tapered side (34,36), the taper preferably including a shallow bevel (34) near the base and a sharper bevel (36) near the tip (40) of the guard portion. The cutting teeth (29,30) of both upper and lower blades (27,28) on both sides form oval shaped cutting chambers (48) with cooperative hook configurations at the entry to the cutting chambers. The upper and lower blades (27,28) are preferably identical in configuration but inverted one relative to the other in the assembly. The straight sides (38) of the guard portions are all faced toward the power head of the trimmer to produce a hooking action as the user sweeps the trimmer during operation.

An abrasive cutting apparatus including a cutting chain (10) formed of pivotally connected links (12) is described for cutting rock, concrete and the like (25). The abrasive cutting chain (10) is inverted so that its cutter links (12) having abrasive cutting elements (22) fixed thereto face inwardly of the endless loop of chain. A motor driven drive pulley (28) having a groove which may be provided with an elastomer liner, engages the cutter links (12) to drive the chain (10). A pair of idler pulleys (34,36) with grooves (38) that engage an outward projection on each of the center links (14) of the chain guide the movement of the chain (10) to provide lateral stability and proper tension to such chain. A releasable connection formed by a pair of connector side links (41) and a connector pin (40) with intermediate portions (48) of reduced diameter, is employed to connect chain sections of standard length to form an endless chain of adjustable length and to enable replacement of broken sections in the field manually without the use of special tools.

A conventional single stage reloader is converted to a multi-station device. The centrally mounted die is replaced by a nut (76) for securing a retrofitting structure (74,78,80) to the single station die holder (22′). The nut has a centre opening, and a plunger extension (82) fitted to the plunger (26′) of the single station reloader is projected through the nut opening. A turret (50′) is mounted to the top of the plunger extension and the retrofitting structure carries a secondary die holder having symmetrically spaced dies (54′) and rotatable bushing (63′) controlled in part by a one-way clutch (62′). An indexing shaft (60′) extends from the turret through the bushing and has a multi-sided cross section by which it is slidably fitted to the bushing in a manner that prevents relative rotation. The configured cross section has an axial twist and when forced through the bushing by the reciprocating plunger, causes turning of one or the other of the shaft and turret or the bushing. the one-way clutch allows the bushing to turn in one direction only. The turret (50) resists turning to a degree greater than the bushing (63′) resists turning in the direction permitted by the one-way clutch (62′). In the other direction the shaft and turret turn and thus sequentially index the cartridges into successive positions relative to the dies in the die holder.
