摘要: An optical code or other data reading device includes a color image sensor array positioned to sense light reflected from an object, and to produce image data. In one configuration, the color image sensor array has multiple sets (e.g., first and second sets) of sensor elements that are sensitive to corresponding visible wavelength bands of light (e.g., first and second wavelength bands), the sets also being sensitive to light within an infrared wavelength band. An artificial illumination source is positioned to illuminate the field of view with light that is reflected off an object in the field of view toward the image sensor array, the illumination source being operable to produce infrared light having wavelengths within the infrared wavelength band so that, upon illumination, at least some sensor elements of each of the sets are sensitive to the infrared light and contribute to production of the image data.

摘要: A method of operating a data reader including an imaging reader with an imager having a scan zone, and a source of visible light including at least one LED, the method can comprise: illuminating the scan zone by pulsing the LED to generate pulses of visible light at a frequency sufficient to prevent a flashing sensation and having a constant pulse width; initiating a series of exposures of the imager, the imaging reader outputting synchronization signals; synchronizing the pulsing of the LED by the synchronization signals; placing an item in the scan zone, thereby reflecting at least a portion of the visible light as reflected visible light; sensing the reflected visible light via the imaging reader; and automatically adjusting an exposure time of the imager based on the intensity of the reflected visible light received at the imaging reader.

摘要: A variety of complementary methodologies may be selectively and systematically employed and are capable of reconstructing label information, such as undecodable characters or elements, where label (95) defects may prevent decoding. Such methodologies include reconstruction from partial information (Figure 2), use of edge strength indicators (Figure 4), decoding techniques based on agressiveness, and learning mode for agressiveness level. Distortion of label information due to mechanical aspects of the scanning mechanism may be corrected and feedback from decoding may be used to adapt various signal processing parameters, such as gain and threshold. Decoding of a digital representation of an input signal may be attempted at first with decoding of the part or all of analog signal being undertaken only after a number of attempts at the digital signal prove unsuccessful.

摘要: Fold mirrors (330) permit the imagers (340) to be closer to each other and permit an optical code reader (280), such as a tunnel scanner, to confine them to a smaller housing volume or capacity. A plurality of sets of fold mirrors (330) can also be employed to convey at least a portion of at least two different perspectives or two different depths of field (341, 343) of a composite view volume (281) to different regions (163, 165) of an image field (156) of a common imager (340). The sets of fold mirrors (330) may also include split mirrors that have mirror components that reflect images from different view volumes (334) to different imagers (340) or different regions (163, 165) of an image field (156) of a single imager (340).

摘要: Disclosed are embodiments of methods, systems, and apparatus for providing multiple image fields or regions on an imaging array. In certain preferred embodiments, a high density imaging array may be partitioned into two or more regions, each of which may be used to render a separate view of the scan volume. This arrangement may provide an increase in the effective scan volume beyond the volume available with a single imager having a single point of view and may allow for reading of encoded symbols at a variety of orientations that would otherwise preclude accurate imaging with a single imager.

摘要: Methods are disclosed for triggering a source of visible light in connection with a data reader in response to a sensed proximity of an item. In one configuration, a data reader includes an imaging reader, such as a CMOS imager, that is sensitive to both infrared illumination and visible light. The imaging reader may be operable to read a symbol, such as a barcode or other optical code, via reflected infrared illumination, reflected visible light, or both. When characteristics of reflected illumination received by the imaging reader indicate the presence or movement of an item in the visible scan zone, the visible light source may be triggered to illuminate the item and thereby facilitate reading of the symbol using the same imaging reader as is used to sense the presence of the item. The visible light source may also be triggered to provide visual feedback.
