The planar wall portions (25,26) are joined together at both of their corresponding incline sides (91 and 92) and at (93 and 94) by curved side wall portions (32 and 33). The curved wall portions (32,33) hold the planar wall portions (25,26) apart from one another but flex under pressure to allow the planar wall portions (25,26) to move towards one another when, in use, the wedge device (20) is squeezed into a chase. Ribs (39 to 44) project from the outer surfaces (27 and 28) to grip the flashing and the overlying brickwork when inserted into a chase.

This invention relates to a method of insulating around a cavity tray (27) in a cavity wall, a method of constructing an insulated cavity wall, and a cavity tray insulating member for use in the methods. The cavity tray insulating member (1) comprises a substantially C-shaped channel (3) constructed from an insulating material. The C-shaped channel comprises an elongate trunk (5) and a pair of arms (7, 9) bridged by the trunk and projecting forwardly therefrom. The C-shaped cavity tray insulating member (1) is mounted on a layer of board insulation (41) below the intended level of the cavity tray (27) with one arm (9) below the intended level of the cavity tray (27) and the other arm (7) above the intended level of the cavity tray. Another layer of board insulation (43) is then mounted on the uppermost arm (7) of the C-shaped channel. Intricate cutting of the insulation material is avoided, thereby simplifying the insulation method.
