In embodiments, the horn end of the waveguide may define a horn selected from a tapered horn, an exponential horn, a tractrix horn, or a modified tractrix horn.

A coin depositing and dispensing machine that enables reduction of the space required to be provided above the coin passage in order to transport coins, thereby enabling the machine body 11 to be made more compact, or increasing the coin accommodating capacity of the accommodating and ejecting units 27 by the amount equivalent to the volume of the reduction of the space. An endless transporting belt 72 is provided above an identifying passage 22 and a sorting passage 23. The transporting belt 72 is stretched across a plurality of pulleys 71 rotatably supported in a horizontal position by vertically extending shafts 71a. As the space required to be provided above the coin passage to install the transporting belt 72 can be reduced, it is possible to make the machine body 11 more compact, or increase the coin accommodating capacity of the accommodating and ejecting units 27 by the amount equivalent to the volume of the reduction of the space.

A device for dispensing coins is described which is constructed with a sensor for generating a signal when a coin is dislodged from the coin canister. Through a system of sensors, the travel of the coin to the user can be tracked and confirmed. A method is described which times the sequence of coin travel and compiles the information for use by the microprocessor of the dispenser or host device for accounting, coin inventory and other purposes.
