A piano key cover having a body of synthetic material pigmented to resemble natural ivory defines a top playing surface having a random orientation of peak-to-valley texture and a multiplicity of fine pores to replicate a surface of natural ivory. A multiplicity of the pores have diameters generally in the range of 0.0002 to 0.0012 inch (0.005 to 0.030 mm). The synthetic material is selected from the group consisting of acrylic polymer, polyurethane, epoxy and the like. A method for forming such a piano key cover and a piano having key covers of the invention are also described.

In production of a casein-type artificial key material for keyboard musical instruments, fine grains of an elastomer such as polyurethane elastomer are added to a mixture to be kneaded together so that, in the structure of the product, islanded elastomer should be uniformly dispersed in the matrix of casein. Inbred brittleness of casein is much improved by inclusion of the elastomer and strong bond between casein and the elastomer well removes the danger of interface separation.

Bei der Erfindung handelt es sich um ein Musikinstrument mit Tastatur, insbesondere um ein Klavier mit Klaviatur. Die weißen Tasten bzw. Untertasten (2) der Tastatur, die die C-dur-Tonleiter bilden, sind in zwei verschiedenen Breiten gehalten (Breiten b und B). Dabei sind die untereinander gleichbreiten Tasten (2) der Töne H und C sowie E und F in ihrer Breite (b) gegenüber den untereinander ebenfalls gleichbreiten Tasten (2) der Töne D, G und A um jeweils ein Viertel deren Breite (B) verschmälert. Die Breite (b) der Tasten H, C, E oder F verhält sich also zur Breite (B) der Tasten D, G oder A wie 3 : 4. Es lassen sich somit auf die bzw. an die Tastatur Schablonen (4) mit gleichbreiten Feldern (5) an- bzw. auflegen, deren Breite gleich ist der Hälfte der Breite (B) einer Taste D, G oder A, wodurch alle Tonleiter, Terzen, Drei- und Vierklänge samt ihren Umkehrungen, Haupt-und Nebenintervalle, Kadenzen und Transponierungen usw. darstellbar sind.
