An electron beam tends to slope downwardly as it is deflected horizontally to form a raster in a video display apparatus. The sloping of the beam can cause geometric errors in the raster, for example orthogonality and parallelogram errors. A raster correction circuit (100) substantially offsets the downward slope of the electron beam by modulating a vertical deflection current (I V ) with an induced horizontal-rate raster correction current (I CORR ), thereby substantially eliminating orthogonality and parallelogram errors in the raster. In respective embodiments of an inventive arrangement taught herein, the horizontal-rate raster correction current (I CORR ) is induced in the vertical deflection coils (L V1 , L V2 ) by magnetically coupling a filament pulse waveform (11), a horizontal deflection voltage waveform, or a horizontal deflection current into the vertical deflection coils (L V1 , L V2 ).

A CRT deflection circuit for use in a flying spot telecine scanner comprises a linear amplifier A1 with a resonant flyback circuit 50 and a flyback shift circuit 70 comprising an inductive DC path L2 carrying a DC offset current and a capacitor C2 carrying the raster scan AC current to the flyback circuit. Since the DC offset current is not applied to the flyback circuit 50, the circuit can fly-back to non symmetrical beam positions, so that the entire scan can be displaced by a shift applied to the input of the amplifier A1.

An image pickup device capable of enlarging images while electronically enlarging the same picks up images of an object while electronically enlarging the same twice relative to those in the normal image pickup. In the enlarging image pickup, signals having been delayed by a 6H delay circuit (141) are interpolated by a luminance signal interpolating circuit (20). Horizontal contour of an image based on the interpolated signals is corrected by a horizontal aperture circuit (64), while vertical contour is corrected by a vertical aperture circuit (36) in response to outputs of the 6H delay circuit. Horizontal contour correcting signals and vertical contour correcting signals are added by an aperture adding circuit 70). Meanwhile, color-difference signals have their random noises eliminated by a CNR circuit 47), and are delayed by another 6H delay circuit (142) and interpolated by a color-difference signal interpolating circuit (30). The interpolated.signals are converted by a color-difference signal converting circuit (31) into color-difference signals which are applied to an encoder (78). For the 6H delay circuit, n/2 CCD 1H delay lines are employed which can delay the luminance signals or the color-difference signals by n horizontal scanning periods, so that the delay circuit can be reduced in number.
