    摘要: The present invention is intended to provide an economical printer which is simple in structure and uses a common tray but is capable of adapting itself to various recording media of different shapes. Adapters in which recording media can be fitly held can be selectively mounted in the tray. An adapter (24) has an oval opening (24a) in which a recording medium (30) can be fitted. The contour of the adapter (24) can fit into a recessed portion (23a) formed in the tray (23). The recording medium (30) is fitly held in the adapter (24). When the adapter (24) is mounted in the recessed portion (23a) in the tray (23), a keyway (23b) and a protrusion (24b) engaging the keyway (23b) prevent the adapter (24) from shifting out of position; the adapter is held in the tray (23). Prints can be made in accurate positions on the recording medium (30).

In the electroluminescent element comprising a light-emitting part A and a light-emitting part B, a flexible, insulating resin layer 5 is provided in the connecting part C in which the two parts A and B are connected. In this, the transparent electrode 2 and the back electrode 6 in the connecting part C are prevented from being cracked owing to the layer 5 existing in the part C. As the means for compensating the electric interconnection between the light-emitting parts in the device, provided are a transparent electrode leading part 9 and a back electrode leading part 10 both of resin binder-containing ink layers.

Brightness deciding means (35) judges an ambient brightness in accordance with the output of a counter (22) for counting the output of a first oscillator (33) having an oscillatory frequency unchanged according to the ambient brightness, and the output of a counter (24) for counting the output of a second oscillator (34) having an oscillatory frequency changed according to the ambient brightness. In this case, the ambient brightness is judged not according to the outputs coming from the individual oscillators (33 and 34) but according to the outputs of the individual counters (22 and 24) for counting the outputs of the individual oscillators (33 and 34). Even if the second oscillator (34) is not changed much in its oscillatory frequency in accordance with the ambient brightness, the slight differences can be accumulated by a counter so that the ambient brightness can be reliably judged according to the accumulated outputs.

The second layer (11b) is formed to cover at least a light transmission region of the first layer (11a). When a voltage is applied between the positive electrode (13) and the negative electrode (14), the second layer (11b) and first layer (11a) are deformed to be pulled to the positive electrode (13), and thereby the curvature of the variable focal length lens (10) is varied to vary the focal length.
