A device (15) for removing an image recording material (12) is provided, which takes up little space and is used with printing plates (12) and interleaf sheets (50) set alternately in a cassette (38). An interleaf sheet (50) and a printing plate (12) are taken out simultaneously. In the midst of being conveyed along a conveying path (108,109) leading to an exposure section (14), only the interleaf sheet (50) is sucked by a fan (62) or drawn-in between a roller pair (58) so as to be peeled off from the printing plate (12). The peeled-off interleaf sheet (50) is discarded, and the printing plate (12) is conveyed reliably to the exposure section (14).

An apparatus (32) for separating a sheet of print media from a stack (30) of porous sheets includes a sheet conveyor for conveying a topmost sheet (30.1) of print media which has been separated from the stack (30) to a printing station (12) of a printer (10). A separator (44) is associated with the sheet conveyor for separating the sheet of print media from the stack (30). The separator (44) includes a fluid delivery arrangement (46) for blowing fluid on to a top surface of the stack (30) for effecting separation of the topmost sheet (30.1) of print media from the stack (30). A capturing arrangement (54) is carried by the sheet conveyor for capturing at least a part of the topmost sheet (30.1) and for facilitating conveyance of the topmost sheet (30.1) by the sheet conveyor to the printing station (12).

A method of separating a sheet of print media from a stack (28) of sheets, the sheets being porous, includes blowing fluid on to a top surface of a topmost sheet (28.1) of the print media on the stack (28) so that the fluid passes through at least the topmost sheet (28.1) of the stack (28) and capturing at least a part of the topmost sheet for conveyance to a printing station (13) of a printer (10).

The invention relates to a device for feeding sheets from a sheet pile to a sheet conveyor drum of a printing machine. The invention seeks to create a device to feed sheets with high feeding performance and low dynamic load. According to the invention, this is performed in that a conveyor element is placed above the sheet pile, configured as a suction box and connected to a lever mechanism, grabs the respective top sheet on the sheet pile, separates the sheet from the sheet pile and conveys the sheet across a feed table to lay marks; and in that, underneath the plane of the feed table, a pre-gripper, configured as an oscillating suction element, grabs the sheet to be conveyed, accelerates its conveyance and delivers the sheet to the sheet conveyer drum.

The present invention relates to a device and a method for loading a sheet-like medium onto a drum without tension, and to a device and a method for unloading a sheet-like medium from a drum. The drum may be a vacuum drum of an imagesetter for example, or a vacuum drum of an input scanning machine. In order to load a sheet-like medium onto a drum without any tension, the sheet-like medium is taken over by take-over means before fixing it on the drum. The unloading is facilitated thanks to the stiffness of the sheet-like medium.

An envelope construction (10) for high speed printing includes a front panel (20) having a flap (12) with a sealing adhesive strip (16) on its back side, and a rear panel (30) secured to the front panel (20) at its marginal edges (32, 34, 36) to form a pocket (P). The thickness of the adhesive strip (16) is substantially the same as the thickness of the rear panel (30) so that when the flap (12) is opened, the overall configuration of the envelope (10) is flat to facilitate stacking and feeding. The combination of the strip (16) and the rear panel (30) are both secured to the back side (20B) of the front panel (20), and the combination adds a layer of a uniform thickness to provide the desired flat aspect. Like such envelope constructions (e.g., 10) are arranged in a stack (530, 730, 930, 1030, 1130, 1430, 1530, 1630, 1830, 2030, 2130) within a paper tray (512, 712, 912, 1012, 1112, 1412, 1512, 1612, 1812, 2012, 2112). The topmost one of the envelope constructions (532, 732, 932, 1032, 1132, 1432, 1532, 1632, 1832, 2032, 2132) is separated from the stack seriatim at high speeds to feed them individually to the printer for printing thereon.
