A photographic material for tanning development which comprises a photographic support base, at least one tannable binder material, at least one silver halide emulsion and at least one pigment, said material including a 3-pyrazolidone compound and at least two different 1,4-dihydroxybenzene compounds, the first of which is chosen within the group of those having a standard tanning development time (STDT) of one fourth to twice the hydroquinone STDT (STDTHy) and the second of which is chosen within the group of those having a STDT of one fourth to fifteen times the STDTHy. Most preferably, the above photographic material includes hydroquinone in addition to the 3-pyrazolidone compound and the two 1,4-dihydroxybenzene compounds, wherein the first 1,4-dihydroxybenzene compound, other than hydroquinone, is chosen within the group of those having a STDT of one fourth to twice the STDTHy and the second 1,4-dihydroxybenzene compound is chosen within the group of those having a STDT of two to fifteen times the STDTHy. A method to obtain relief images by using the above said photographic material.

In a silver halide photographic material for tanning development, comprising a support base coated with a substan- tally unhardened hydrophilic binder layer including a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion reactively associated with a tanning developer and a dispersion of colloidal silver, the tendency of the hydrophilic binder to become water-insoluble during storage can be prevented by adjusting the pAg of the colloidal silver dispersion to values in the range from 6.5 to 9.5 with a 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole compound before coating.

(1)the scanningwise exposure of a multicolour original attached to a rotating scanner drum to produce electrical signals that are fed into a computer, (2)the computer controlled single scan exposure of separate black-and-white light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer materials with respectively red, green and blue image information, (3)the development of the exposed silver halide emulsion layers with a hardening developing agent producing a silver image selection that can be used as intermediate original in the production of a printing plate and wherefrom a pattern of oxidized hardening developing agent is imagewise transferred into a hardenable non-photosensitive coloured gelatin layer being present on a temporary support or already being present on a permanent support (4)the production of a coloured relief image by wash-off processing of said coloured gelatin layer, and (5)the production of a multicolour pattern on the same permanent support.

A process for preparing a photographic resist image which comprises the steps of: (1) exposing to a subject a photographic material comprising:
(i) a support, (ii) a transparent or translucent substantially non-hardened hydrophilic colloid layer essentially containing gelatin as binder and incorporating a hardening developing agent, (iii) a substantially non-hardened hydrophilic colloid layer essentially containing gelatin as binder and incorporating colouring substances, (iv) a substantially non-hardened gelatin silver halide emulsion layer, and (v) a transparent substantially non-hardened gelatin top layer, and
(2) contacting the exposed material with an alkaline aqueous liquid to activate the development of the developable silver halide, (3) removing the substantially unhardened portions by wash-off, wherein said liquid contains at least 100 g potassium carbonate per liter to reduce the swelling of the resist and to improve its resistance against abrasion.
