A lamphouse for a telecine allows the spectral composition of its output to be controlled electronically. A light beam (300) is bounced off mirrors to reduce its infrared content, then passes through three beam splitters (305, 310, 315) which split off the blue, red and green content. The blue, red and green beams pass through electronic shutters (320, 325, 330) and are then reflected off dichroic mirrors (335, 340, 345) to become a single beam (348) again. The spectral content of the single beam is controllable by turning the electronic shutters (335, 340, 345) corresponding to the blue, red and green beams on and off.

An arc-segment-shaped gate (100) for a photographic film scanning apparatus has a six inch radius from a pivot shaft of the gate to the outermost surface at which the scanning of the film is to occur. The gate (100) is pivoted around a pivot axis (104) through an optical chassis of the scanning apparatus and is driven by a worm-gear segment arrangement via a reversible electric motor. The gate swings through an arc of approximately 6½° on each side of a vertical initializing position of the gate and has an aperture at which a frame of the film can be held against the gate by a clamping arrangement which is moved with the gate. The gate of the present invention is that the gate is mounted to be adjusted about a spherical bearing by the use of bearings mounted on eccentric shafts against which a wear plate (114) on the gate is registered. Pins (121,122) and biasing springs mounted on the gate and the gate system drive allow adjustment of the gate in Θ X and Θ Z directions for obtaining precise optical alignment.

In a telecine apparatus for converting a light passed through a film (19) into a video signal comprises a transporting device (16) for transporting the film intermittently, operation of a shutter (4) is controlled so that a light from an irradiating device (14) becomes incident on a solid state image sensing element (25R, 25G, 25B) of odd and even simultaneous exposure and sequential-read out system during a period between a storage starting timing of a signal of an odd field of the solid state image sensing element and a read-out timing of a signal of an even field or during a period between a storage starting timing of a signal of an even field of the solid state image sensing element and a read-out timing of a signal of an even field. Further, operation of the transporting device is controlled such that a timing at which the film is intermittently transported becomes the equal interval. Furthermore, an address signal corresponding to a field frequency of a standard television system is supplied to the memory so that the memory is controlled so as to output the video signal of the field frequency of the standard television system.
