Solution heat pump systems, improvements in the heat exchangers thereof, methods for utilizing waste heat and for improving the efficiency of heat exchange are provided, to up-grade waste heat by temperature boosting. Waste heat is fed to the evaporization zone of a first heat exchanger (2) of an absorption heat pump apparatus to vaporize a first fluid (3) of a binary fluid, the vaporized first fluid (3) is then absorbed by the binary fluid in the absorber zone (5) releasing heat. A second heat exchanger (40) in the absorber zone (5) accepts the released heat from the binary fluid, thereby upgrading the temperature of the fluid to produce steam in the heat exchanger (40). After the release of heat from the binary fluid, the first fluid of the binary fluid is vaporized by use of waste heat and the vapor is condensed (35). The condensate is transferred to the first heat exchanger (2) for revaporation and the desorbed binary fluid is transferred to the absorber for further absorption of fluid. Improved heat exchanging contact between a source of waste heat and a binary working solution is obtained by providing a uniform film of binary working solution on the outside surfaces of a vertical tube heat exchanger.

Apparatus for continuously conveying decorated container members having wet ink images on the outer periphery thereof between a first continuously moving rotatable mandrel wheel type container carrying apparatus of a high speed container decorator or coater machine and a high speed second continuously linearly moving pin chain container carrying apparatus comprising: a continuously rotatable disk type conveyor means rotatably movable in a predetermined endless path between the first and second continuously moving container carrying apparatus including a first path portion located in juxtaposition to the first continuously moving container carrying apparatus for receiving decorated container members therefrom and a second path portion located in juxtaposition to the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus delivering decorated container members thereto; a plurality of individual circumferentially spaced vacuum cup means fixedly peripherally mounted in equally spaced relationship on and extending laterally outwardly of and being continuously movable with said disk type conveyor means in fixed relationship therewith for holding a single container member on each of said vacuum cup means, only by application of vacuum thereto during movement between the first and second continuously moving container carrying apparatus and for releasing container members therefrom only by removal of vacuum therefrom; and vacuum chamber means extending along the path of movement of and in substantially seaied relationship with said disk type conveyor means between the first and second continuously movable container carrying apparatus and being connected to each of said vacuum cup means adjacent to the first continuously moving container carrying apparatus for receiving and holding container members delivered therefrom and being disconnected from each of said vacuum cup means adjacent to the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus for releasing the container members for supportive engagement therewith and being continuously connected to each of said vacuum cup means during movement between the first continuously moving container carrying apparatus and the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus for holding the container members thereon solely by applied vacuum during non-supportive association with the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus.

Also, a counterbalancing system (110) is provided for applying a force to counterbalance the weight of a portion of structures used to reciprocate the redraw carriage (40). Additionally, a ram assembly (150) is provided for supporting a ram (262) for movement through the redraw apparatus (16) and the can forming and ironing dies wherein a pair of spaced apart elongated shafts (154, 156) are fixedly mounted and a ram carriage (170) having the ram (262) attached thereto is provided with liquid bearings (180, 182) using liquid coolant comprising water having solubles contained therein for mounting the ram carriage (170) on the elongated shafts (154, 156) for substantially friction free movement thereover. A guide liquid bearing (272) is also used to ensure proper alignment of the ram (262). Also disclosed is a reciprocating ram (1014) which is supported solely by a liquid bearing (1030) wherein the liquid bearing (1030) using liquid coolant comprising water having solubles contained therein has a sufficient length to ensure the proper alignment of the leading portion (1020) of the elongated ram (1014) as it engages a can blank in a redraw assembly (1010) and moves it through the forming and ironing dies to form an elongated can body.

The sequential engagement of the can bottom wall (114) by first the forming ring (140), then the domer die (180) prevents flower dome formation and axial can body shortening.
