摘要: A physiological characteristic monitor comprises an input device (106) capable of receiving a signal from a sensor (102), the signal being based on a physiological characteristic value of a user for example blood glucose concentration. The monitor has a processor (108) for analyzing the received signal, and initiates a timer based upon a conditions associated with the physiological characteristic value of the user. It also provides a reminder to the user following expiration of the timer. The reminder may include an alarm signal selected from the group consisting of an audible signal, a visual signal, a tactile signal and a display. Typically, the duration of the timer is preset based upon the initiating condition, which may be that an event marker is entered into the monitor. Event markers may be a meal marker, an exercise marker, a high blood glucose marker or a low blood glucose marker.

摘要: A liquid atomizing device (10) is constructed with a hollow shell-like top cover (12) and unitary molded main support (30) which snaps into place inside the top cover (12) and divides it into upper and lower regions. The main support (30) includes formations for mounting, on its upper side, a printed circuit board assembly (58) including an electrical oscillator, as well as a piezoelectric actuator (60) and orifice plate pump assembly. The main support also includes formations for removably mounting, on its lower side, a battery (108) and a liquid reservoir (88). An openable bottom cover closes the bottom of the device and allows access to the battery (108) and to the liquid reservoir (88) for replacement of these elements.

摘要: A diffuser (1) for mixing and oxygenating water or other liquid with an airstream employs a self supporting microporous tubular membrane (11), arranged in a spiral or grid configuration, with openings which are at least equal to the diameter of the membrane (11), extending both horizontally and vertically between the circuits or grids of the diffuser (1). Gas, when forced through the tubular membrane (11), forms fine bubbles which agitate, oxygenate and entrain the surrounding liquid as it slowly rises through the openings. The tubular membrane (11) is flexible and is to be mounted on a manifold (14, 15) which connects it to a source of air or gas, and which may also impart buoyancy or serve as an anchor in the liquid.

摘要: Systems and methods for non-vascular sensor implantation and for accurately measuring a physiological parameter in areas of a body where amounts of the physiological parameter are heterogeneous. An implant unit is implanted in an area of a body and a foreign body capsule is allowed to form around the area of the implant unit. A sensor may be directed into a body cavity such as, for example, the peritoneal space, subcutaneous tissues, the foreign body capsule, or other area of the body. A subcutaneous area of the body may be tunneled to place the sensor. A plurality of spatially separated sensing elements may be used for detecting individual amounts of the physiological parameter. An overall amount of the physiological parameter may be determined by calculating a statistical measurement of the individual sensed amounts in the area may be determined based on the sensed amounts.
