    摘要: A compact disk player/changer for compact disks fits within the standard half-height disk drive form factor for computer peripherals. A disk either a 5-1/4-inch or 3-1/2 inch in size, is inserted through an aperture and supported, at opposite contact points on its edge, between laterally movable left and right-side disk guides. The disk's left side is frictionally engaged by a belt revolved on the left-side disk guide. The disk's right side rolls along a fixed wall on the right-side disk guide. The belt slides along a rigid wall of the left-side disk guide that prevents bowing from pressure exerted by the disk's edge. A motor that drives the revolving belt is fixedly mounted on a chassis. An extensible transmission transmits rotational force from the motor to a timing pulley to propel the belt on the laterally movable left-side disk guide. The extensible transmission consists of gear train on a pair of hinged members to provide a thin profile. The use of the extensible transmission reduces the movable weight, reducing the power and bearing load of the movement mechanism. In addition, the clearance required for a moving drive motor is avoided.

    摘要: A disk transport mechanism for moving disks into a disk-player transports disks between an eject position and a playback or storage position inside the disk-player. The tray passes through an opening in the disk-player when it moves from the eject position to the playback or storage position. The disk transport mechanism carries the disk on a tray with a circular recess which locates the disk precisely in the tray. A disk improperly placed in the tray, so that it rests on a ridge around the circular recess, could cause damage when the tray passes through the opening. To prevent this, the transport mechanism abruptly accelerates the tray during movement into the disk-player by momentarily halting or reversing a drive motor of the disk transport mechanism. The acceleration of the tray causes any improperly mounted disk to fall into the circular recess before the disk can jam in the opening, thereby preventing injury to the disk or the disk-player.

    摘要: A motor drive, for rotating turntables and moving optical pickups in CD players, employs two motors, in parallel, to power a drive train. In players used to play CD-ROMs, a high torque power source is required to permit high rotation speeds demanded by these units. In the present invention, the rotors of the motors are positioned side-by-side with their drive shafts interconnected by the drive train. Output is transmitted by one of the motor shafts. By combining the motors in this way, high output torque is achieved with a compact design. In the preferred embodiment, the rotors of the two motors are drivingly interconnected so that there is a one-to-one relationship between the rotor angular positions. The stators of the motors are positioned so that the torque peaks of one of the two motors occurs at a time different from those of the other motor. At least partial cancellation of the torque peaks is achieved. If only partial cancellation occurs, the result is that the drive cogs at a frequency that is twice that of a single motor. This makes the stopping resolution for the drive of the invention lower than in a system that employs one motor. Thus the optical pickup's positioning resolution can be greater. If total cancellation occurs, smooth drive output is achieved, which is a benefit for rotating the turntable.

A disk, is inserted through an aperture and supported, at opposite contact points on its edge, between laterally movable left and right-side disk guides. The disk's left side contacts a belt revolved on the left-side disk guide. The disk's right side contacts a fixed wall on the right-side disk guide. The belt slides along a rigid wall that prevents bowing from pressure exerted by the disk's edge. Thus, the left-side disk guide presents a flat movable wall that rolls the disk into the disk player along the fixed wall. The left and right-side disk guides move laterally to accommodate the disk as it is inserted. The spacing between the disk guides, once the disk is fully supported between the disk guides, is detected by a controller to determine when a disk has been inserted. When a disk is ejected, the belt is driven until the disk spindle hole is moved beyond the aperture. This is possible because the left-side and right-side disk guides move together to force the disk out through the aperture. When a disk is inserted in the opposite direction, the disk guides are close enough together to engage the disk before it has to be inserted deeply. As the disk is inserted, the guides separate to accommodate the disk.
