The construction for coupling a rodless cylinder (3) to the base (2) includes a hollow duct (2A) formed in the bottom wall of the base (2) and extending along the entire length of the base (2). A projection (20) extending along the entire length of the duct (2A) is formed on the upper inner wall of the duct (2A) when the base (2) and duct (2A) are formed by a drawing or extrusion process. After the base (2) is formed, the longitudinal ends of the projection (20) are cut off by a predetermined length from both longitudinal ends of the base (2). The portions of the duct from which the projections (20) are cut off act as receiving portions into which mounting nuts (17) are inserted, and the end faces of the remaining projection (20) act as stoppers which abut the inserted mounting nuts (17) to position them. The upper walls of the duct (2A) above the receiving portions are cut off to form slits (19) opening to the upper face of the base (2). The rodless cylinder (3) is coupled to the base (2) by inserting mounting bolts through bolt holes on end caps (34) disposed on both ends of the cylinder (3). The bolts further pass through the slits (19) and engage the mounting nuts (17) placed in the receiving portions.

A three line type drafting device wherein first, second and third sets of drafting rollers (4 and 5, 6 and 7, and 13 and 16) are provided. The middle (second) set of rollers (6 and 7) are both constructed as apron rollers. In the back (third) set of rollers, the top roller (13) is constructed by an apron roller, while bottom roller (16) is constructed as a fluted roller. A guide plate (41) is arranged between the middle bottom and back bottom rollers (9a and 16) and is made to contact, at its top surface, with a lower side of the apron (14) of the back roller set. A desired control of floating fibers is obtained at a back drafting zone between the middle and back sets of rollers (6 and 7; and 13 and 16), while a desired total drafting ratio is obtained between the front and back set of rollers (4 and 5 and 13 and 16) without being influenced by inevitable variation in thickness of the apron (14) at the back roller set.

A method and apparatus for piecing lap sheets in a textile machine, such as a comber or ribbon lap machine. The machine is stopped when a lap roll EL is nearly emptied. A pressing member 53 at a rest position C1 is moved to an operating position C2, and a breaking comb 32 is moved from a rest position Al to an operating position A2 so that the lap sheet LP2 is broken. A full lap FL is then rolled onto a pair of feed rollers 10 and 11. A suction pipe 43 is then moved to an operating position B1, so as to engage with an end S1 of a new lap sheet LP1 from the full lap roll FL. The suction pipe 43 is then moved to a position B3 located at a distance from a nip line N1 longer the length of the lap sheet LP1 from the nip line N1 to its edge, causing the ends of the old and new lap sheets to be superimposed. A reverse rotation of the feed rollers 10 and 11 then occurs, so that the fibers of the new lap sheet LP1 at the superimposed portion are stretched. Finally, a pressing member 53 is again moved to the operating position C2, so that the fibers at the superimposed portion are pressed toward the lap sheet plate 20 to obtain a neatly superimposed condition.

An improvement of a unit drafting mechanism of a spinning machine, provided with at least one unit drafting mechanism, provided with a pair of slide metals (3,4) disposed on roller stands facing each other and a plurality of bottom rollers (5,6,7) and top rollers (25,26,27,28) journaled on these slide metals (3,4) in a rotatable condition, wherein each bottom roller (5,6,7) is provided with an axial air passage (12) formed coaxially with its center axis, air jet apertures (13,14) are radially formed at both end portions near to the bearing bores (9) of the slide metals (3,4) each aperture (13,14) is connected to the axial air passage (12), and the axial air passage (12) is connected to a source (21) of compressed air, whereby the possible deposition of flies in the circumference and journal portions of draft rollers can be effectively eliminated by continuously or intermittently supply compressed air through the axial air passage (12) of the bottom rollers (5,6,7).
