Connectors at ends of the cable sections are respectively connectable to a light source device and a signal processing device. Between the front end and a position near the rear end of the operation section is provided a connection/removal section to which a first unit that is on the insertion section side and a second unit that is on the cable sections side are removably connected.

A capsule type endoscope (3) (one example of in vivo image acquisition device) is swallowed into a subject thereby to take the image of the interior of an organ of the subject. This capsule type endoscope (3) includes plural LEDs (11a, 11b), plural CCDs (12a, 12b), and a sending module (46). The CCDs (12a, 12b) pairing the LEDs (11a, 11b) take the image of the interior of the body cavity, which is irradiated by the LEDs (11a, 11b). The send module (46) adds identification data for identifying the CCDs (12a, 12b), to those individual longitudinal pieces of image data of the capsule type endoscope (3), which were taken by the CCDs (12a, 12b), and sends those individual pieces of image data together with the identification data to the receiving side.
