In the method the base plate (1), web parts (2) and top plate (3) of the beam are cut from a plate material, the parts are assembled in such a manner that between them, a space is formed for concrete, and the parts are welded together. Web plates (3) are cut to a curved shape according to precambering. Side supports (4) determining the position of the web plates and centre supports (5) determining the location of the top plate (3) are fastened to the base plate (1) at regular intervals in the longitudinal direction of the beam. A force (F) is directed to the base plate (1) that forces the base plate (1) to the curvature defined by the web plates (2).

Two joined hollow frame members have face plates 11,12,21,22 connected in a truss manner by ribs 13A,13B,23A,23B. An end portion of one face plate 11,21 is positioned at the vicinity of an apex of the truss structure. An end portion 12b,22b of the other face plate projects further. The end portions 12b,22b are joined by friction stir joining from above. A connection member 30 is arranged between the upper face plates 11,21 and joined from above by friction stir joining. A load applied in the friction stir joining time is received by the ribs 13A,13B,23A,23B. A lightweight structure and high rigidity performance can be obtained.

A process for constructing a wall, floor or ceiling in situ. The process includes the steps of erecting a substantially rigid frame (10) and attaching fibre reinforced cementitious sheets (50) to the front and rear faces of the frame to form a void (60) therebetween. This void (60) is then filled with a lightweight aggregate concrete slurry and allowed to cure. The sheets are adapted to absorb sufficient moisture from the lightweight aggregate slurry to provide natural adherence of the concrete slurry to the sheets without substantially losing their structural integrity during setting and curing of the concrete slurry.

The invention provides a stud of any chosen length. The stud has a plurality of sections (preferably two or four), each of which extends for substantially the length of the stud. The sections may be capable of moving relative to one another in a horizontal or vertical direction. In one embodiment, the sections of the stud are adapted to be fixed by fixing means, such as screws, expanded locking mechanisms and ratchet arrangements. The invention also provides the stud section used to make the stud.
