The computer (72) is connected to a first transceiver (16) having at least one antenna for emitting and detecting a radio frequency (RF) signal, and to a microphone (76) for detecting an audio signal (24). The computer (72) is also connected to a counter (26) for measuring a time interval (28) between a transmitted RF signal (20) and audio signal (24) from the token (70). The token (70) is connected to a second transceiver (30) having at least one antenna for emitting and detecting an RF signal (20) and a loudspeaker (74) for emitting an audio signal (24). The method is characterized by comparing the measured time interval (28) to a predetermined time range (38) and enabling the computer (72) in response to the time interval (28) being within the predetermined time range (38) such that the user (52) may have access to the enabled computer (72) and disabling the computer (72) in response to the time interval (28) being outside the predetermined time range (38).

    摘要: A tool condition monitoring system (10) monitors the power consumption of a tool during performance of a cyclical task. The system monitors (16) a plurality of characteristics of the power consumption and diagnoses the condition of the tool based upon the plurality of characteristics. A rule base of the plurality of characteristics is generated in a learning mode by monitoring a tool of known condition for a plurality of cycles. In monitor mode, the system monitors the power consumption of a tool and diagnoses the condition of the tool by indexing the rule based upon the plurality of characteristics monitored. In addition, a method is disclosed wherein the band may be modified for accommodating tool wear, such that a tool, although dull, may be utilized and monitored.

    摘要: @ Existing auditory warning systems are in general too loud and it is often difficult to distinguish between a number of different warnings. Further under different conditions warnings may change character due to masking by varying noise. A warning system is disclosed which is based on a microprocessor 35 and waveforms for each warning sound stored in a ROM 32. The waveforms are read out to DACs 42 and 43 and used to drive a loudspeaker 45 by way of programmable attenuators 38 and 39. Each waveform is devised to have at least four quasi-harmonically related frequency components at a power level in the range 15 to 30 dB above threshold. In this way the sounds are distinctive and do not change character with varying noise levels below threshold.
