    摘要: The present invention helps to mitigate and reduce the amount of interfering (e.g. RF leakage) that enter the phase detector of a phase locked loop by acting as a less than perfect sampler. This is accomplished by introducing a time jitter to the signal edges that enter the phase detector input. A phase detector can also be made to act as a less than perfect sampler by intentionally introducing an interfering signal. For example, a small interfering analog signal can be introduced with a different frequency from the reference frequency already present in the PLL. The interfering signal will cause the stable internal signal to vary slightly in time at the rate of the interfering signal frequency. It is this signal variation and jitter introduced on the signal edges entering the phase detector input that induces the phase detector to act as a less than perfect sampler.

    摘要: Method and system are disclosed for automated calibration of the VCO gain in phase modulators. The method and system of the invention comprises synthesizing, in a phase modulator, a signal having a given output frequency using a controlled oscillator having a frequency control input, a modulation input, and a feedback loop. A frequency control signal is applied to the frequency control input, and gain variation of the controlled oscillator is compensated for outside of the feedback loop via the modulation input. The method and system of the invention may be employed in any telecommunication system that uses phase and amplitude modulation, including EDGE and WCDMA systems.

    摘要: An output-power threshold is selected such that one or more signal requirements is not outside a pre-determined range when output power of a polar transmitter is less than the output-power threshold. A determination is made whether the output power is less than the threshold. In response to a determination that the output power is less than the threshold, amplitude modulation of a polar signal transmitted by the polar transmitter is disabled. When the output power meets or exceeds the output-power threshold, the polar signal transmitted by the polar transmitter is both amplitude and phase modulated.
