摘要: A method and an apparatus for selecting an amount of light to be irradiated for fog detection onto a photoreceptor (10) from a density detecting device (23) out of amounts of light for low density or for high density. A real original (1) is illuminated by a predetermined amount of illuminating light, whereby a toner image corresponding to the real original (1) is formed on the photoreceptor (10). Light of an amount for low density is irradiated onto the toner image to acquire a first density data. In addition, a pseudo original (22a) is illuminated by the predetermined amount of illuminating light, whereby a toner image corresponding to the pseudo original (22a) is formed. Light of the amount for low density is irradiated onto the toner image to acquire a second density data. The difference between the first and the second density data is compared with a predetermined threshold value. If the difference is less than the threshold value, the amount of light for low density is selected for fog detection. If the difference is not less than the threshold value, the amount of light for high density is selected.

摘要: There is provided a cleaning unit for removing residual toner present on the periphery of a photoconductive drum (42) after toner image transfer, which includes: a main blade (105) for scraping the toner from the surface of the photoconductive drum (42); and a cleaning roller (107) disposed below the main blade (105) and abutting against the periphery of the photoconductive drum (42). The inner space of the cleaning housing (101) is divided into a cleaning chamber (103) and a toner storage (104) by a separator plate (102). A spacing (S) between the lower end (102a) of the separator plate (102) and the periphery of the cleaning roller (107) is adjusted to preferably 1mm to 2mm, more preferably 1.3mm to 1.5mm. By thus adjusting the spacing (S), the toner is compressed when passing through the spacing and, hence, the toner transportation pressure is increased.

摘要: An image forming apparatus capable of cutting a strip-shaped continuous sheet on which an image is formed to a desirable cutting length. A rolled-sheet (4) is conveyed by registration rollers (LL) and the like. The rolled-sheet (4) is further led to the vicinity of a photosensitive drum (20) through pre-transfer rollers (TL). The rolled-sheet (4) to which a toner image has been transferred is subjected to toner fixing processing by a fixing device (35). When the leading end of the rolled-sheet (4) reaches the pre-transfer rollers (TL), the rotational speed of a sheet feeding motor (PFM) is increased during predetermined time. Consequently, the sheet conveying speed on the upstream side of the pre-transfer rollers (TL) in a direction of sheet conveyance is increased, thereby forming slack in a sheet portion between the registration rollers (LL) and the pre-transfer rollers (TL). Consequently, tension exerted on a sheet portion between the fixing device (35) and the pre-transfer rollers (TL) does not affect the conveyance of the sheet by the registration rollers (LL). If operation timing of a cutting mechanism (80) is determined on the basis of the number of output pulses of a pulse output unit (PW) for detecting rotation of the sheet feeding motor (PFM), therefore, the rolled-sheet (4) can be reliably cut to a desirable length.

摘要: An image forming apparatus having a structure in which it is judged whether or not the trailing end of a continuous sheet is fixed to a feeding reel (51, 52, 53). The continuous sheet wound around the feeding reel (51, 52, 53) is pulled out, and is conveyed through a conveying path passing through an image forming section. When the continuous sheet is conveyed, the rotation or the stop of the feeding reel (51, 52, 53) is detected. When the stop of the rotation of the feeding reel (51, 52, 53) is detected while the continuous sheet is being conveyed, it is judged that the continuous sheet has been used up. The continuous sheet is further conveyed for a predetermined time period after the judgment. It is judged whether or not the trailing end of the continuous sheet is fixed to the feeding reel (51, 52, 53) depending on whether or not the continuous sheet exists in a predetermined position of the conveying path.
