The present invention concerns a multicomponent superabsorbent fibre which comprises a first superabsorbent material and a second superabsorbent material. In at least a part of the length direction (L) of the superabsorbent fibre, the first superabsorbent material and the second superabsorbent material are located side-by-side in the cross-direction (C) of the superabsorbent fibre. The first and second superabsorbent materials are selected such that - at a given point during their swelling - the swelling capacity (SC) of the first superabsorbent material is greater than the swelling capacity of the second superabsorbent material so that the superabsorbent fibre (10) curls upon contact with liquid. The invention also concerns a method for reducing gel-blocking in a superabsorbent fibre.

The invention relates to a method and device for the spinning and texturing of a synthetic composite thread. The composite thread is formed from several part threads. The part threads are spun, cooled, drawn and textured in parallel. According to the invention, physical properties matching the qualities of the part threads which are as optimal as possible may be obtained, whereby at least one of the part threads is drawn separately from the remaining part threads before the texturing. A drawing means is formed from several separate feed devices, whereby at least one of the feed devices is provided for one of the part threads and the part thread is drawn through the feed device separately and independently of the other part threads.

Undrawn, tough, durably melt-bondable, macrodenier, thermoplastic, multicomponent filaments, such as sheath-core and side-by-side filaments, comprising a first plastic component and a second lower-melting component defining all or at least part of the material-air boundary of the filaments. The filaments can be made by melt-extruding thermoplastics to form hot filaments, cooling and solidifying the hot filaments, and recovering the solidified filaments without any substantial tension being placed thereon. Aggregations of the filaments can be made in the form of floor matting and abrasive articles.
