A coupling element (10) for slide fastener is formed from a monofilamentary material such as polyester, nylon and like thermoplastic resins into a continuous meandering or zig-zag structure having a substantially semi-circular transverse cross-section, the coupling element (10) having a coupling head (11), an upper leg (12) and a lower leg (13) extending oppositely from said head (11) in parallel spaced apart relation and a heel (14) interconnecting each of the upper and lower legs (12, 13). The heel (14) is oriented by rotation through 90° or 180° and protrudes at least in part beyond the outer surface of the leg (12, 13) thereby providing increased surface area of the heel (14) for sliding contact with a slider (S).

Disclosed is a woven slide fastener including a row of fastener elements composed of a flat coil formed of a continuous monofilament, and a slide fastener tape having the row of fastener elements woven into a longitudinal side edge thereof. Each fastener element includes a coupling head and upper and lower leg portions joined thereto. Binding warp threads extend along the upper and lower sides of the fastener element row and are woven into the tape along with other warp threads and a weft thread to form a portion where the tape and fastener element row are mutually interwoven, thereby maintaining the perpendicularity of the leg portions with respect to the tape, the stability of the spacing between mutually adjacent ones of the fastener elements, and the smoothness with which the row of fastener elements is coupled with an opposing row of fastener elements.

A coil-shaped fastener element (20) of the present invention is sewn to a fastener tape (13) without using a core string. An upper leg portion (23) of the fastener element (20) has a first upper surface (27a) continued from a connecting portion (24) and contacting a sewing thread (14, 16), and a second upper surface (27b) extending and sloping upward from the first upper surface (27a) via a bent portion (28). A height dimension (H1) between a top end surface (27c) and the bent portion (28) of the upper leg portion (23) is 20% or larger of a height dimension (He) of the fastener element (20). The upper leg portion (23) has a first lower surface (26a) which is sloped to be apart from the fastener tape (13) toward a coupling head portion (21), and the upper leg portion (23) has an element contacting portion (23a) in an area of the first lower surface (26a). Thereby, cost reduction of the slide fastener (1) can be attained, and the fastener element (20) can be prevented from passing through the sewing thread (14, 16) and exiting.
