摘要: A positive displacement pump having single or twin screws (2) is disclosed in which the screw flights (34,36,38,40) are formed in the outer surfaces thereof with balancing holes (82) which can be filled with material less dense than that of the screw flights which can each be closed by a cap (84) having an outer surface which is flush with the outer surface of the adjoining flight. Also disclosed for the or each screw flight is a wear measuring port (86) in which a measuring device can be inserted to measure relative wear between the corresponding screw flight and the pump casing. Alternatively a proximity sensor (98) can be located in the measuring port so that wear of the corresponding flight can be dynamically sensed during pump operation. Additionally, the provision of wear strips (122) on the outer surface of and of less than half the width of the screw flight are disclosed as is a fluid pressure feedback control system (119) for the or each screw flight which reduces the pressure differential over a part of the discharge end of each flight.

摘要: A fibrous tape base web material comprises fibres bonded together by paper making bonds with the web having a first surface with patterned undulations and an opposite second relative smooth surface. The web has an apparent bulk in the range giving a thickness of between 0.025 and 0.005 mm in a sheet having a weight of 1.63 per m² (about 0.10 to about 0.20 caliper points per lb ream), a machine direction tensile strength of at least 2.86 kg/cm (16 lb/in) and a machine direction stretch of at least 8%. Conveniently the tape base web can be manufactured utilizing the steps of forming a wet fibrous web, pressing said web to thereby partially dewater said web to between about 30 and 50% solids, moving said material at a speed about 5% and about 25% less than the surface speed of said roll.

摘要: A foam-formed nonlaminated stratified paper tissue 300 and method of making the same includes a first zone 301 of foam-formed paper tissue formed from a furnish which is relatively rich in hardwood fiber. A second zone 401 of foam-formed paper tissue is formed from a furnish which is relatively rich in softwood fiber. The second zone is formed unitary and entangled with the first zone to form a nonlaminated stratified paper tissue. A high softness integument is defined adjacent to an outer surface of the first zone and a substratum is defined adjacent to a surface of the second zone spaced away from the integument. The integument 320 on the outer surface of the first zone includes an enriched region 330 wherein the hardwood fiber content is greater than that obtainable in the corresponding region of a tissue obtained from furnishes having the same compositions under the same conditions but employing water-forming instead of foam-forming. The substratum 420 on the surface of the second zone includes a region enriched in softwood fiber. The enriched region 430 of substantially pure hardwood fiber provides an extremely soft and smooth surface as detected by human somatic sensibility.

摘要: A method for drying a moist fibrous web comprises passing the web on a porous carrier through the nip between a heated roll, which contacts the web, and a pressing roll. Either or both of the heated roll and the porous carrier has a surface in contact with the web which is composed of raised and recessed areas defining a pattern. Where the moist web has a pre-formed patterned surface, the surface of the heated roll and/or of the carrier, as the case may be, which contacts said surface of the web has a pattern which mates with said pre-formed pattern and is in register with it. Where the moist web has a pre-formed pattern on one surface, the surface of the carrier or roll in contact with the other surface of the web may or may not be provided with a pattern which is then imprinted on that other surface.

摘要: Surfactant is recovered from the foamed aqueous admixture recovered from a fibrous web forming process by draining surfactant-depleted liquid from the foamed aqueous admixture thereby forming a surfactant-enriched foam, separating the surfactant-depleted liquid from the surfactant-enriched foam and recycling surfactant from the surfactant-enriched foam to the fibrous web forming process in the form of a stream having a surfactant concentration exceeding that of the foamed aqueous admixture. The recycle stream may be obtained by removing air from the surfactant-enriched foam. Surfactant may also be recovered from the surfactant-depleted stream by aerating it to form a foam from which surfactant-lean liquid is drained. The process may be repeated on the surfactant-lean liquid until the surfactant content of the finally obtained lean liquid is sufficiently low to permit discharge to the environment.

摘要: A method of creping a fibrous web is described which comprises providing to the interface of a fibrous web and a support surface, preferably a drying surface such as provided by a Yankee dryer, a creping adhesive comprising a non-self-crosslinkable material such as a polymer or oligomer having functional groups which are crosslinkable by ionic crosslinking, and a crosslinking agent which preferably comprises metal cations having a valency of at least three, and removing the fibrous web from the support surface by creping. Also provided is a creping adhesive comprising a polymer, oligomer or mixture thereof having functional groups crosslinkable by cations, a component providing metal cations having a valency of at least three, and an aqueous solvent or diluent for the polymer or oligomer. The glass transition temperature and adhesive strength of the adhesive employed in the invention is readily controllable and the adhesive is easily removed from dryer surfaces.
