Es wird ein Verfahren zur Detektion der Relativbewegung eines Fingers gegenüber einer Sensorfläche (1) bereitgestellt. Das Verfahren weist die Schritte auf: a) Ermitteln erster Kapazitätswert von Elektroden der Sensorfläche (1); b) Umsetzen, in einer Bildverarbeitungsvorrichtung (5), der ersten Kapazitätswerte in ein erstes Graustufenbild; c) Binarisieren des ersten Graustufenbildes in der Bildverarbeitungsvorrichtung (5) um ein erstes binarisiertes Bild eines ersten Teilbereiches der Sensorfläche zu erhalten; d) Übermitteln des ersten binarisierten Bildes an eine Bewegungsdetektionsvorrichtung (4) e) Wiederholen der Schritte a) bis c) um ein zweites binarisiertes Bild eines zweiten Teilbereiches der Sensorfläche (1) zu erhalten, wobei der zweite Teilbereich positionell versetzt ist von dem ersten Teilbereich; f) Übermitteln des zweiten binarisierten Bildes an die Bewegungsdetektionsvorrichtung (4); g) Ermitteln, in der Bewegungsdetektionsvorrichtung (4), von Bewegung des Fingers basierend auf dem ersten binarisierten Bild und dem zweiten binarisierten Bild, wobei die Bewegung des Fingers über mehrere Zeilen der Sensorfläche verfolgt wird.

A spectrum sensor detects the presence of incumbent signals in the television-band. The spectrum sensor can detect digital Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) signals below a −114 dBm signal level and wireless microphone signals below a −110 dBm signal level with false detection rates less than 10%. A radio module receives radio-frequency signals and produces an intermediate-frequency signal reflecting signal received in a selected television channel. A baseband processor module receives the intermediate-frequency signal, digitizes it, and processes the digital data to detecting whether an incumbent signal is present in the selected channel. The processing may include using pilot detection based on power spectrum thresholding or statistic characteristic extraction to detect ATSC signals. The processing may also include using power spectrum thresholding or covariance based signal detection to detect wireless microphone signals.

Methods and apparatus for conserving power in terminal units (100) that transmit and receive modulated data over a communication loop (120) that is shared with voiceband telephone equipment are disclosed. The methods include monitoring the loop to detect a shut-down condition and reducing power consumption of certain of the electronic circuits in the terminal unit (100) upon detection of a shut-down condition. The methods also include monitoring the loop with a monitoring circuit (115) to detect a resume signal outside the voiceband frequency range on the loop (120) and restoring power to the electronic circuits when the resume signal is detected.; The apparatuses include a modulated data transmitting and receiving unit having a connector for coupling the unit to a communications loop (120), circuitry (112, 113) to transmit and receive a modulated data signal in a frequency range above voiceband, and circuitry (115) to detect a resume signal in the frequency range above voiceband and then to initiate a power up sequence for the transmit and receive circuitry (112, 113).

A technique for maintaining a predefined transmission quality in a wireless Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). Each of a plurality of Local Area Networks are coupled to a corresponding router. Each router is coupled to one or more transceivers for interconnecting the routers via wireless links. Each router stores a table representative of the topology of the MAN and receives detected indicia representative of the quality of the wireless links and representative of network traffic loads. The router adapts the manner of transmission and the path of transmission according to the indicia. As a result, the MAN is highly efficient, in terms of cost, power and bandwidth utilisation. For example, a strength of a signal received over a wireless communication link is periodically monitored for maintaining the strength within a predefined range by adjusting the transmission power.; In addition, an error rate for the data received over the link is monitored. If the received signal strength remains below the predefined range despite the transmit power having been adjusted to a maximum allowable level, and if the error rate approaches a predefined limit, one or more techniques are selectively employed to reduce the error rate while maintaining a sufficiently high network throughput. The adaptive techniques include changing the data rate, modulation level, error correction coding, and spectrum spreading. In addition, a path for the data is preferably selected according to an Open-Shortest-Path-First algorithm, though one or more alternate paths can be selected for transmitting at least a portion of the data.

The present invention provides a telecommunications system and method for connecting to a network and for routing data messages between the network and subscriber terminals of the telecommunications system. The subscriber terminals are connectable to a central terminal of the telecommunications system via a transmission medium, with the telecommunications system providing a number of communication channels arranged to utilise the transmission medium for transmission of data between the central terminal and the subscriber terminals. The telecommunications system comprises a transmitter within the central terminal for sending a data message destined for a particular subscriber terminal over at least one of the communication channels as a number of data blocks. Further, a frame generator is provided within the central terminal for generating a number of frames to represent each data block, each frame having a header portion and a data portion. The header portion is arranged to be transmitted in a fixed format chosen to facilitate reception of the header portion by each subscriber terminal, and is arranged to include a number of control fields for providing information about the data portion. In contrast, the data portion is arranged to be transmitted in a variable format selected based on predetermined criteria relevant to the particular subscriber terminal to which the data portion is destined. This approach provides a particularly flexible and efficient technique for transmitting data within the telecommunications system.
