摘要： A motor drive, for rotating turntables and moving optical pickups in CD players, employs two motors, in parallel, to power a drive train. In players used to play CD-ROMs, a high torque power source is required to permit high rotation speeds demanded by these units. In the present invention, the rotors of the motors are positioned side-by-side with their drive shafts interconnected by the drive train. Output is transmitted by one of the motor shafts. By combining the motors in this way, high output torque is achieved with a compact design. In the preferred embodiment, the rotors of the two motors are drivingly interconnected so that there is a one-to-one relationship between the rotor angular positions. The stators of the motors are positioned so that the torque peaks of one of the two motors occurs at a time different from those of the other motor. At least partial cancellation of the torque peaks is achieved. If only partial cancellation occurs, the result is that the drive cogs at a frequency that is twice that of a single motor. This makes the stopping resolution for the drive of the invention lower than in a system that employs one motor. Thus the optical pickup's positioning resolution can be greater. If total cancellation occurs, smooth drive output is achieved, which is a benefit for rotating the turntable.

摘要： Briefly, a compact disk player/changer for compact disks fits within the standard half-height disk drive form factor for computer peripherals. A disk, is inserted through an aperture and supported, at opposite contact points on its edge, between laterally movable left and right-side disk guides. The disk's left side contacts a belt revolved on the left-side disk guide. The disk's right side contacts a fixed wall on the right-side disk guide. The belt slides along a rigid wall that prevents bowing from pressure exerted by the disk's edge. Thus, the left-side disk guide presents a flat movable wall that rolls the disk into the disk player along the fixed wall. The left and right-side disk guides move laterally to accommodate the disk as it is inserted. The spacing between the disk guides, once the disk is fully supported between the disk guides, is detected by a controller to determine when a disk has been inserted. When a disk is ejected, the belt is driven until the disk spindle hole is moved beyond the aperture. This is possible because the left-side and right-side disk guides move together to force the disk out through the aperture. When a disk is inserted in the opposite direction, the disk guides are close enough together to engage the disk before it has to be inserted deeply. As the disk is inserted, the guides separate to accommodate the disk.

摘要： An automatic bag opening device includes a housing (1) having a bag intake opening (1a) for receiving a filled shipping bag. A bag assist plate (3) forms a chute, allowing the bag to slide down and rest on a bag rest (5). A hollow penetrator (7) penetrates the bag to hold it in place while a bottom of the bag is cut. The bag rest moves away from the bottom of the bag, allowing the contents of the bag to spill out. An air blast through the penetrator helps the bag empty. Additional air blasts hit and shake the bag, knocking the contents loose. A bag pusher (4) pushes the empty bag into a set of rollers (8), folding the empty bag in half, and discharging the bag outside the housing. A dust collector within the housing collects loose dust, thereby enhancing safety and cleanliness of the workplace.

摘要： A disk playback device holds a disk in a playback position. A turntable moves toward the disk to a raised position where its support surface is adjacent a back of the disk. A spindle inserts through a center hole of the disk to align the disk with the turntable. A clamper is held above the disk on a side of the disk opposite the turntable. The clamper is supported close enough to the disk that when the turntable is in the raised position, a magnet in the turntable exerts a substantial force on a piece of ferromagnetic material in the clamper. When the clamper is released it clamps the disk to the turntable. By bringing the clamper and turntable to the disk rather than moving the disk toward one or the other, no space is required for the displacement of the disk in a direction perpendicular to its surface. The clamper is supported by a pair of holders, slidable in a direction parallel to the surface of the disk. Wedge-shaped surfaces on the holders engage a flange on top of the clamper to lift and hold the clamper above the disk. If a disk is misaligned with the spindle when the turntable is brought to the raised position, the disk is pressed against the clamper. The clamper in turn presses against inclined surfaces of the holders causing the holders to spread apart. The spreading is detected to invoke a control routine to correct the misalignment.

摘要： A disk transport mechanism for a disk player employs a fixed disk guide and drive-side disk guide, the latter with a revolving belt, to support opposite edges of a disk. The disk is held between the fixed and drive-side disk guides to press the revolving belt against the disk edge causing the disk to roll along the fixed disk guide. Both guides have high friction surfaces, such as rubber, to prevent slipping of the disk. For user comfort, the revolving belt is on a side closest to the anticipated position of the user so the disk rotates in the most natural direction. To protect the belt and fixed support surface of the fixed disk guide, a disk guide of low friction material is located at the front of the fixed disk guide opposite the revolving belt. Upon insertion, the user pushing the disk toward the rear of the disk player and laterally away from the user's body (to the right for a disk player located to the right of a user holding the disk in the right hand), applies a force, with normal and shear components, to the disk guide. The normal force is greater against the disk guide than against the more vulnerable moving belt, located opposite the disk guide. The fixed disk guide surface is not contacted until the disk is released by the user so both surfaces are protected.
