摘要: Hot melt ink is maintained in a solid state. When ink is called for in the reservoir (18) of a scanning imaging head (10), the head is moved to a refill position coupled to the solid state ink, whereupon the ink is melted coupled into the reservoir of the imaging head.

摘要: In an ink jet printer, pellets of two phase ink in solid form are dispensed from a revolvable cylindrical cartridge (100), whereby a pellet of ink drops from the cartridge into a heated reservoir (10), where the ink pellet melts and is then fed in liquid form to a chamber, for ejection from an orifice (20) as an ink droplet.

摘要: An actuator assembly for a dot matrix printer of the stored energy type in which a plurality of flexible spring hammer elements are mounted in an interleaved arrangement in order to provide a compact structure. The actuator assembly includes a mounting block having upper and lower magnetic circuits and spring hammers attached to it. A portion of the magnetic circuits is coupled to the rear of the mounting block in order to facilitate heat dissipation from the actuator. The pole pieces of the magnetic circuits are positioned to reduce resonance of the spring hammers to thereby decrease cycling time. Permanent magnets utilized in the assembly are arranged in a non-symmetrical fashion in order to increase the magnetic efficiency of the device. Integrally connected pole pieces and permanent magnets are used in the assembly to reduce manufacturing costs without degrading performance.

摘要: For controlling the volume of ink droplets ejected from a drop on demand ink jet apparatus including a transducer (204) operable for producing a pressure disturbance within an associated ink chamber (200) for ejecting an ink droplet from an associated orifice (202), the transducer (204) is operated in an iterative manner for producing a plurality of successively equal or higher or lower amplitude pressure disturbances, or some combination thereof, within the ink chamber (200), for causing a plurality of successively equal or higher or lowervelocity ink droplets, or some combination thereof, to be ejected from the orifice (202) of the ink jet apparatus, within a time period permitting the ink droplets to either merge in flight or upon striking a recording medium.

摘要: An improved print hammer (10) incorporating crossed- spring support wires (20, 22) having a round cross section so as to render the hammer relatively flexible in a direction lateral to hammer travel during printing. The spring wires are connected between a lower body portion (18) and a foot section (24). The lower body portion and foot section are designed so that the spring wires enter them substantially perpendicularly, thereby reducing stress. The foot section incorporates a pair of mounting pegs (36, 38) which serve to accurately locate the hammers in a hammer bank assembly. A pair of weights (52) can be included on the spring wires in orderto dampen recoil motion which occurs after the hammer impacts against a print character. The crossing point (21) of the spring is positioned so that the springs are flexed by a constant bending moment, thereby reducing stress on the springs.

摘要: This disc printer uses a relatively massive, rigid print disc (22) having a flat face on which two sets of raised character fronts (21,22) are arranged in separate spirals. Advantage ously, the inner font set (21) contains machine readable characters which are printable with high resolution, and a second font set (22) arranged so that the characters are upright as they pass a print zone which is vertically offset from the zone in which the high resolution characters are printed. The print disc acts as the platen for printing. With this arrangement, the same print disc can be used to print characters onto a record medium (10) at two different elevations, while maintaining the medium flat. arid without the need to transport the medium vertically. A check printer also is dis- dosed which uses the print disc to print machine readable, high resolution characters onto the check (10) during linear transport of the check in one direction, and to print other indicia onto the check during linear transport thereof in either the same or the opposite direction.

摘要: In an electronic network (10) having a computer (14), a spooler (12), and a printer (24), the network address of the printer is automatically detected by a method and a system in which a non-print job, which includes a job header (52) identifying the sending computer, is generated by the computer and transmitted via the spooler to the printer. The printer responds by transmitting an acknowledgment which includes the network address of the printer, to the sending computer. The sending computer identifies and stores the printer address therein. Thereafter, the printer address stored at the computer can be used to provide direct communications with the printer, for purposes of certain printer related functions such as determining the printer configuration or set-up, or monitoring the printer.
