A sighting device (10) is mountable to a gun. The device includes a sighting light source (20) at the rear of the gun, said light source (20) being visible to a user when turned on. The sighting light source (20) (preferably an LED light source emitted through an opening), can be used to sight a target. Preferably, the gun with which the sighting device is used also has a first, mechanical sight at the end of the barrel distal the sighting light source. In use the user aligns a slot (200S) on the sighting light source with the first, mechanical sight in order to properly sight a target. The first, mechanical sight could also be illuminated by a light source on the device, so it can be seen when the ambient light is low.

The light body (40) has a recess (41) between the first and second clamp members (52, 54). A keying member (62) is removably disposed in the recess (41) and has a keying feature (64) that engages a keying feature (208) of the mounting rail (200) when the light body is clamped to the mounting rail by the first and second clamping members (52, 54). The light (10) is mountable on mounting rails having keying features of different sizes and shapes, the keying member (62) being selected from a set of keying members for having a keying feature of a size and shape that corresponds to the size and shape of the keying feature of the mounting rail.

The device includes a light source (20) (preferably a laser), a power source (30) connectable to the light source (20) and a mount (102) attachable to the gun (2000) so that the laser is juxtaposed either the top surface of the gun (2000) or a side surface of the gun (2000). In one embodiment, the sighting device (10) includes a bottom rail mountable in a slot (2010) on the gun (2000), wherein the slot (2010) is preferably positioned on the top surface of the gun (2000).
