In the alternative, a second vibrator assembly (27), which is coupled to the first, clamps the wire electrode (11) when the first vibrator assembly is moving in a direction having a component in the wire feeding direction.

A top guide assembly (7) in a wirecut electric discharge machining device provided thereon with an automatic wiring mechanism and having a construction by which a wire (1) can be held without direct mechanical contact. A hold jet nozzle (37) is connected to the top portion of a main body (23) and a top guide (24) is connected to the bottom portion of the main body (23). The main body (23) is provided with an electrode roller (12) for supplying power to the wire (1) and an electrode pinch roller (13) attachable to and releasable from the electrode roller (12). The hold jet nozzle (37) has a through-hole (40), the center axis of which coincides with a wire route a extending vertically and set in the top guide assembly (7), and a high pressure working fluid supplying path (41) communicating with the through-hole (40). The top guide (24) is provided therein with a dice guide (35) and a top nozzle (34). The guide axis of the dice guide and the center axis of the top nozzle coincide with the wire route a . During operation of the wirecut electric discharge machining device, high pressure working fluid is supplied to the aforesaid supplying path (41) and a powerful water column is formed in the top guide assembly (7), whereby the wire (1) is guided by the water column through the top guide assembly (7) without contacting inner members.

This invention provides an automatic wire connecting method in a wire cut electric discharge machine by which a wire electrode can be inserted into a machining start hole having an extremely small diameter with a simple structure. An upper wire support part (17) is moved together with a wire, until the tip of the cut wire (1) goes into a machining start hole (7, 7'), towards a workpiece (6) aligned with the wire support portion (17) disposed on the wire supply side of a wire feeding system. Then, while the wire tip is kept inside the hole, the upper wire support portion is moved away from the workpiece and then the wire is transported to a wire take-out side of the wire feeding system to complete connection.
