They comprise: (a) a polyester resin which is a hydroxylated or carboxylated polyester with unsaturation in its chain, and (b) an organic peroxide with a minimum curing temperature of between 140 and 190 °C; the relative proportions of resin and organic peroxides being 55 - 60 % by weight of resin based on the final composition and 0.5 - 3.0 % by weight of organic peroxide based on the final formulation. These systems find their main application in the manufacture of powder coatings for the coating of temperature sensitive substrates like plastics and metallic substrates, especially aluminium substrates, using the systems currently existing in industry.

A polyester resin having a glass transition temperature of not less than 15°C and a reduction viscosity of 0.15-1.5, which comprises a graft polymer comprising a polyester having an unsaturated bond as a main chain, and a radical polymerizable unsaturated monomer as a side chain, and a sublimation transfer image receiver which comprises a dyeable layer mainly comprising a dyeable resin comprising the polyester resin. Inasmuch as the polyester resin can provide highly sensitive images without the use of a plasticizer or an additive, it is suitable as a dyeable resin for a sublimation transfer image receiver. The images obtained by the use of a sublimation transfer image receiver having a dyeable layer containing this resin are superior in durability and preservation stability.

Unsaturated polyester resin-based compositions that are modified for unexpected improvement in uniform, low optical distortion and/or improved tint speed by the addition of one or more additives selected from an allylic ester and/or an acrylic monomer, together with an exotherm depressant, making the modified polyester resin-based composition commercially viable for casting ophthalmic lenses. The additive(s) and exotherm depressant are useful to modify the polyester for sufficient enhancement of optical distortion and/or tint speed such that any unsaturated polyester resin, capable of producing a clear, low color casting, will be improved sufficiently to provide a composition having the required properties for an ophthalmic lens.

Disclosed are a resin composition for artificial marble comprising: (I) an unsaturated polyester obtained by using a divalent alcohol containing hydrogenated bisphenol A as an essential component and an α,β-ethylenic unsaturated dibasic acid; (II) a copolymerizable monomer; (III) an unsaturated alcohol which can be copolymerized with the unsaturated polyester (I) and the copolymerizable monomer (II); and (IV) a low molecular weight styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer having a molar ratio of styrene to maleic anhydride being 3:1 to 7:1 and a number average molecular weight of less than 5,000, wherein the unsaturated alcohol (III) is used in such an amount that the weight ratio of the unsaturated alcohol (III) to the copolymerizable monomer (II) is 1:99 to 50:50, the weight ratio of the unsaturated polyester (I) to (the copolymerizable monomer (II) + the unsaturated alcohol (III)) is 30:70 to 70:30, and the weight ratio of the styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer (IV) to (the unsaturated polyester (I) + the copolymerizable monomer (II) + the unsaturated alcohol (III)) is 10:90 to 40:60, a bulk molding compound or sheet molding compound using the same, and a process for preparing artificial marble using the same.
