    摘要: To improve the structure of discharge electrodes formed in a discharge panel, improve the effective screen surface rate and increase productivity, a discharge panel 2 is constituted by a pair of substrates 3 and 8 bonded together with a gap and ionizable gas sealed within the gap space. Discharge electrodes 9 having a stripe pattern are formed on the lower substrate 8 and barrier ribs 10 running parallel with the discharge electrodes 9 are formed on the lower substrate 8 so as to divide the gap space in such a manner as to define discharge channels 12. A part of each of the discharge electrodes 9 is covered by the corresponding barrier rib 10 whereas the remaining part thereof is exposed within the discharge channel 12.

    摘要: To improve the durability of discharge electrodes formed in a plasma cell and achieve fine detail, a plasma-addressed display device is provided having a laminated structure with a display cell 1 provided with column-arranged, stripe-shaped signal electrodes 5, a plasma cell 2 provided with row-arranged, stripe-shaped discharge electrodes 9, and a dielectric sheet 3 sandwiched in between the display cell 1 and the plasma cell 2. The portions where the signal electrodes 5 and the discharge electrodes 9 intersect define pixels. The plasma cell 2 includes an insulating substrate 8 bonded to the dielectric sheet 3 with a gap therebetween to form a cell and a gas that ionizes when a voltage is applied to the discharge electrodes 9 sealed in the cell. The discharge electrodes 9 are constituted by electrically conductive material embedded into grooves 13 dug in rows into the insulating substrate 8.

This is advantageous for the implementation of large display screens or for miniaturization.

    摘要: A plasma-addressed electro-optic display device comprising a layer of electro-optic material, data electrodes coupled to the electro-optic layer and adapted to receive data voltages for activating portions of the electro-optic layer, and a plurality of plasma channels extending generally transverse to the data electrodes for selectively switching on said electro-optic portions. The plasma channels each comprise spaced elongated cathode and anode plasma electrodes and an ionizable gas filling. To improve performance and increase the effective aperture and provide a stable discharge, the channels are configured with a substantially flat bottom surface portion and curved side wall surface portions on which the electrodes are deposited such that the spacing between the electrodes is increased and the electrode surfaces form an angle of the order of 90°. Additional features include provision of black masking to screen out incident light that may depolarize, and a novel method of forming the electrodes using a single mask.
