摘要: Document reading apparatus, for producing electrical signals representative of information present on a main face of a document, includes feeding means (31), for moving such a document (15) towards a predetermined reading location in the apparatus, and a sensor device (32), disposed at a detecting location upstream of the said reading location, for detecting passage of a leading edge part of the document (15) across the said detecting location towards the said reading location. Optical reading means (11, 12, 13, 14) produce electrical signals representative of such information on that portion of the document (15) which is currently at the said reading location, and control means (21, 22, 23) initiate operation of the reading means upon expiry of a preset delay time after such passage of the said leading edge part across the said detecting location. The apparatus is operable in a calibration mode wherein, when a calibration document (C) bearing predetermined calibration information (3) is fed into the apparatus, such electrical signals derived from the said calibration information (3) are employed by calibration circuitry (21, 23) of the apparatus to measure displacement of the said leading edge part (4) of the calibration document (C) from the said reading location upon expiry of the said preset delay time. The magnitude of the preset delay time is then modified in dependence upon the measurement result. Such calibration can serve to reduce such displacement of the leading edge part of a document read in a subsequent reading operation.

The offset values for successive scans pseudo-randomly vary within a range 0 ≦ accm i In a printer having a prismatic scanner, a different predetermined pseudo-random offset value is advantageously provided for each facet of the prism (12), whereby the offset value for any given facet can be retrieved from a table look-up memory under the control of a scan counter or the like to be applied to the frequency synthesizer alone or as an initial offset for a polygon signature correction value for the given facet.

摘要: A line-at-a-time printer is realized by directing a collimated light beam through an interaction area of an electro-optic light modulator (36) while successive sheets of data samples are sequentially applied to electrodes positioned across the width of the modulator. A modulated line latent image is formed on the surface of a photoreceptor (20), the photoreceptor being indexed to create successive exposed, modulated line images on its surface. Electronic registration control of successive images, for example in a color printing process, is achieved by a control system (42) which triggers the light beam source between the time interval during which data signals are loaded into the modulator. In one embodiment the pulse sourcing is accomplished through a feedback loop which includes a sensor for monitoring movement of the photoreceptor and application of the light source pulses and the data samples.

摘要: A laser beam emitted from a laser (90) is detected by a photosensor (312) and a flip-flop (370) is preset by a detection signal output from the photosensor (312). A timer (372) is driven in accordance with a preset output from the flip-flop (370) and a timer output is generated after a lapse of a predetermined period of time. The laser (90) is again driven by the timer output to emit a laser beam. While, another timer (376) is driven in response to a front edge of the preset output of the flip-flop (370) to generate a horizontal synchronizing signal (HSYNCO).

The beam deformation can render the detection unit less sensitive to unwanted inclinational changes of the deviation unit.

摘要: A non-impact printer in which a source of image information (36) such as a computer, facsimile machine, word processor or the like provides image information to an image transfer device (38) which transfers the image to a moving image receiving surface (14) for printing of the image as hard copy. A motion encoder (20) senses the motion of the image receiving surface (14) and creates a digital timing signal representative of the motion. A logic circuit (32) selectively delays the input of the image information signal to the image transfer device (38) in response to digital timing signal to synchronize motion of the image receiving surface (14) with transfer of the image to the image receiving surface (14).

摘要: A raster scanner includes a scanning module (12) which comprises a linear scanning array, a scanning slit permitting the array to view a document image one line at a time, and document transport for transporting documents past the scanning slit. To accommodate the disparity between scanning rates and user data rates, a relatively small buffer (14) stores lines of pixels output by the array pending demand by an output device (16). Intermittent operation of the scanner in response to buffer pixel demands is effected through starting and stopping of the document transport. A control (15, 45) is provided to prevent uneven spacing of scan lines resulting from scanning stopped documents or documents in the process of being accelerated or decelerated to and from scanning speed by the document transport.

摘要: Electrophotographic printers have raster output scanners (27) that correct for polygon facet (126) phasing errors and photoreceptor (10) position errors by aerial scan line adjustments. A photoreceptor position sensor senses the position of the photoreceptor (10) and a facet position sensor (137) senses the position of the polygon facets. A scan line position controller (119) produces a position signal that depends upon the photoreceptor position sensor and the facet position sensor (137). A piezoelectric-actuated lens mover assembly (118) receives the position signal and moves a pre-polygon lens (116) to adjust the scan line plane to correct for any misregistration. The piezoelectric-actuated lens mover assembly (118) includes a large displacement piezoelectric element and a flexible arm assembly (210) that holds the pre-polygon lens (116).
