The invention relates to a method for preheating a pressed material mat (14) spread on an endlessly and continuously circulating molding band (6) during manufacture of wood material boards, wherein microwaves from one or both press surface sides are beamed into the pressed material mat (14) to preheat the pressed material mat (14) and the pressed material mat (14) is compacted and hardened by application of pressure and heat after transfer to a continuously operating press (1). The invention consists of microwaves in a frequency range of 2400 - 2500 MHz being used to heat the pressed material mat (14), wherein the microwaves for each press surface side are generated from 20 to 300 microwave generators (26) with magnetrons (20) of a respective output of 3 to 50 kW. A device for preheating pressed material mats (14) is also provided, in which 20 to 300 microwave generators (26) with magnetrons (20) with an output of 3 to 50 kW and with a frequency range of 2400 - 2500 MHz are arranged in a conveyor furnace (4) per area side.

The device comprises rotatable compressing rolls (2; 22), at least one of which is provided with a perforated shell surface (6; 26) and a channel system (7:27) arranged axially inside the shell surface, the processing medium being supplied to the mat via a slide shoe (8; 28) sealingly abutting the end wall of the roll (2; 22), further via the channel system (7; 27) and the perforated shell surface, and injection of the processing medium to the mat via the perforated shell surface occuring in a restricted sector (9) of the roll (2; 22) where the mat is compressed. Characteristic of the invention is that the injection of the processing medium can take place over a stepwise variable axial width of the roll (2; 22).

The invention relates to a method for producing shaped bodies, especially fibre boards, particle boards or similar. According to said method, fibres or cellulose- or lignocellulose-containing particles with added binders are dispersed to form a nonwoven material and then preheated. This nonwoven material is then pressed to form the shaped body, heat and pressure being applied. The nonwoven material consisting of pre-pressed fibres or similar particles is pre-heated by conveying heat energy from inside the nonwoven outside, to the surface. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the inventive method.

A process for preparing shaped articles comprises the steps of: (a) mixing a water curable binder with vegetable particulate material to form a first mixture, the moisture content of said first mixture being insufficient to cure said binder prior to said mixture being placed in a mold; (b) feeding said first mixture to a mold having molding plates, said molding plates and said first mixture defining an interface; (c) providing water to at least a portion of said interface, the amount of water added at said interface, in conjunction with the moisture content of said first mixture, being sufficient to cure said binder; and, (d) subjecting said first mixture to elevated temperatures and pressures.
