The invention relates to a method, in which the position of the latch levers of an energy store are monitored, which normally retain the switch breakers thereof in the latched state and the motor drive is switched off, as soon as all latch levers are not in the latched position, whereby the energy store is released and the rapid commutation of the load transfer switch started. According to the invention, the stepping switch comprises proximity sensors in the region of the latch levers, for the carrying out of said method, said sensors being connected to a control circuit for the motor drive. It is thus guaranteed that the control circuit is broken and the motor drive stopped, as soon as not one of the latch levers is in the latched position and retaining the switch breaker for the energy store.

The particularity of the invention is the fact that it comprises a threaded bar (3) which is arranged in the sliding direction and is rotatably supported by the fixed structure (2). A female thread (10) engages the threaded bar and is rotatably supported by the movable frame. In order to produce the translatory motion with manual actuation, the threaded bar is rotated and the female thread is fixed with respect to the movable frame; while in the case of motorized actuation, the threaded bar is fixed with respect to the fixed structure and the female thread rotates with respect to the movable frame.
