    摘要: Observer tracking is provided in an autostereoscopic 3D display, for instance of the type comprising an LCD panel 2 behind a parallax barrier 3. An infrared sensor such as a position sensitive detector 25 is provided on the LCD panel 2. The parallax barrier 3 extends over the detector 25 so as to form an image of the observer or of a reflective target 22 worn by the observer on the detector 25. The parallax barrier 3 is moved so as to keep the image at a constant position on the detector 25. The viewing zones thus track the observer.

    摘要: A spatial light modulator comprises a plurality of picture elements arranged as rows and columns. The columns are arranged as adjacent groups, for instance for association with an element of a parallax device to provide an autostereoscopic 3D display. Adjacent picture elements disclosed in each row and in adjacent columns of each group overlap horizontally so that there are overlapping regions (13) and non-overlapping regions (12). The vertical extent of each picture element is substantially constant throughout the non-overlapping region (12) and is substantially equal to the sum of the heights of the adjacent picture elements throughout the overlapping regions (13). The overlapping regions may be of right-angled triangular shape.

    摘要: An integrated circuit is designed by defining its functions in a programming language which supports parallelism and synchronised communication. The resulting source code 1 is supplied to a compiler which includes an optimiser module 8 for retiming synchronised communications without changing the order of external communications of the integrated circuit. The compiler produces output code 12 which represents the circuitry of the integrated circuit and which may be supplied to synthesis tools and subsequent steps in the manufacture of the integrated circuit.

    摘要: An eye detection system comprises a source, such as an infrared laser diode 2, for emitting a divergent beam of infrared radiation. A spatial light modulator 4 is controlled so as to act as a deflector for scanning the beam. A detector 7 detects radiation which is retro-reflected by the eye 12 back along the path of the scanning beam. The deflection angle of the SLM 4 and, for a position sensitive detector 7, the location of the centre of illumination on the detector can be used to determine the angle to the centre of the pupil of the eye 12. By subsequently detecting the angle to the glints corresponding to other sources 9 and 10, the gaze position of the eye on a screen 1 can be determined.

    摘要: A diffractive spatial light modulator comprises first and second substrates (1, 2) between which an optical path is defined comprising, in order, first (8), second (6), and third (8) half wave retarders. The second retarder (6) has a fixed optic axis whereas the first and third retarders (8) have switchable optic axes. The modulator is pixellated and each pixel comprises a switchable phase-only diffraction grating. Each pixel is switchable between a first mode in which incident light is output in the zeroth order diffraction lobe and a second mode in which incident light is deflected into higher order diffraction lobes. The spatial light modulator may be used in high brightness projection displays.
